    The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Illinois College of Medicine, Peoria (UICOMP) seeks a candidate for the position of Division Chief of Pediatric Infectious Diseases.

    This will be an academic appointment at the level of Associate/Professor of Clinical Pediatrics.

    The candidate must hold or be eligible for an Illinois physician license, hold MD/DO or equivalent degree and be BC/BE in Pediatric Infectious Diseases.

    Position Summary


    The University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria, Department of Pediatrics is seeking a pediatric Infectious Disease physician with a track record in healthcare leadership and program development for the position of Division Chief of Pediatric Infectious Disease.

    Duties & Responsibilities


    • Establish and maintain effective education programs in Pediatric Infectious Disease for medical students and residents. Collaborate with other faculty in maintaining excellence in general pediatric education.
    • Stimulate and nurture scholarly activity within the Division and strengthen current research portfolio.
    • Expand clinical service program to meet regional needs.
    • Develop a vision for expansion and growth of current clinical services.
    • Provide leadership to support the faculty in the Division of Infectious Diseases to achieve excellence in clinical care, teaching, and research.
    • To sustain an existing supportive and collaborative environment for other subspecialists thus facilitating programs that care for high complexity patients.
    • To support quality improvement efforts and safety initiatives within the Division and Children's Hospital of Illinois.
    • Direct and conduct his/her own research in pediatric infectious diseases.
    • Provide care for patients with infectious diseases admitted to Children's Hospital of Illinois, consultation and support to other services and manage patients in ambulatory clinics.
    • Collaborate with other ancillary services to provide high quality, safe, and individualized patient, and family centered care.
    • Perform duties of a university faculty member including committee assignments, curriculum development and administration.
    • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
    Minimum Qualifications


    • Licensed or eligible for licensure in the state of Illinois
    • Board Certified in Pediatric Infectious Disease
    • Proven Track Record of professional leadership in academic medicine
    • Academic rank of Associate Professor or Professor
    • MD/DO or foreign equivalent

    UICOMP is one of the three regional campuses of the University of Illinois College of Medicine, one of the largest public medical schools in the country.

    UICOMP's educational programs include 244 medical students and 300 residents/fellows in 21 different post graduate programs. The Department of Pediatrics is one of the largest departments at UICOMP.

    In collaboration with the OSF HealthCare Children's Hospital of Illinois, the Department has 19 divisions and over 111 faculty members providing general pediatrics and subspecialty services to the pediatric population in Central Illinois.

    The current research infrastructure within the Department includes a pediatric clinical trial unit, office of research with a dedicated biostatistician, research coordinator support and epidemiologist.

    There are existing resources through UICOMP and Children's Hospital of Illinois to support research, quality improvement and innovation in health education projects.

    There are significant opportunities for developing clinical and translational research projects in pediatric infectious diseases. The Department has a well-established research infrastructure to foster research in artificial intelligence and machine learning applications in pediatrics.

    Adult Infectious Diseases Division is starting a fellowship training program this summer, this will provide opportunities for partnership in research and teaching.

    About Children's Hospital of Illinois


    The primary teaching hospital of UICOMP is Children's Hospital of Illinois, a tertiary care facility serving a 37-county region with a population base of over two million.

    Children's Hospital of Illinois provides comprehensive services to children, including Quaternary Care NICU and a state-designated Pediatric Critical Care Center.

    Children's Hospital of Illinois is a major medical facility with 136 beds and a 32-bed critical care unit and the only Level 1 trauma center in Illinois outside of Chicago.

    The hospital is also proud to house the St. Jude Midwest Affiliate, which brings some of the care and services offered by St. Jude in Memphis to central Illinois.


    Currently there is one pediatric infectious disease faculty in Peoria, and we are recruiting another infectious disease faculty, in addition to the Division Chief.

    The program is currently supported by faculty from the Chicago campus and other regional partners who provide telehealth services. There is also a large adult infectious disease program on campus.
