The Practice Support Services Department of Arnold & Porter has an opening for a Case Assistant in the Washington, DC office supporting several practice groups including Antitrust, Environmental, and Consumer Products.


Essential responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assisting with the electronic discovery process, including the collection, preservation, and processing of client materials; preparing documents for review and administration of ongoing document reviews; organizing production sets for eventual submission to relevant parties; maintaining tracking logs to monitor the status of document reviews as well as incoming and outgoing productions; and assisting with the preparation of privilege logs.
  • Establishing and maintaining case files, document collections, and chronologies.
  • Drafting correspondence.
  • Compiling materials for witness interviews and depositions.
  • Digesting and indexing deposition transcripts.
  • Assisting with trial preparation and at trial including setting up trial sites, organizing trial exhibits and notebooks, developing charts, graphs, and other visual aids, maintaining exhibits, taking notes, and assisting with trial technology and/or other presentation software.
  • Developing information retrieval systems with an emphasis on use of computerized litigation support.
  • Checking citations and proofreading legal documents.
  • Researching, analyzing, and drafting factual memoranda. Conducting research on antitrust, environmental and consumer product issues.
  • Conducting computer searches, research and case management functions on client databases or firm resources such as Opus 2, Relativity, Lexis/Nexis, Westlaw, HighQ/Engage, the Internet.
  • Collaborating with eData (litigation support) regarding electronic discovery and other related matters.
  • Filing and retrieving documents at courthouses and government agencies and preparing files for and executing electronic filings.
  • Pulling cases and obtaining resources from local libraries.
  • Assisting with coordinating teams of contract attorneys on document review projects.
  • Assisting with client contact and communications.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A minimum of a high school diploma, with a bachelor's degree strongly preferred.
  • Excellent academic record.
  • Superior organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage a large workload efficiently and effectively.
  • Highly detailoriented, including the ability to assess and respond to underlying detail issues and implications.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, a commitment to professionalism, integrity, and collegiality.
  • Proven ability to multitask and set priorities while meeting deadlines in a fastpaced environment.
  • Exceptional problemsolving skills, critical thinking abilities and the ability to work well under pressure.
  • Flexibility to work overtime as necessary, including nights, weekends, and travel, as necessary.
