The Registered Nurse in the Pediatric Infusion Center utilizes the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation to provide safe, therapeutic care.

Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary and nursing teams; carries out established nursing procedures and performs related duties as required; performs nursing care for patients with complex needs.

Manages patient care administered by other members of the nursing team. Recognized as a leader and clinical resource. Demonstrates investment in the overall forward movement of the practice and the organization.


For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.


Department Description

  • The Pediatric Infusion Center at Mission Bay service the Pediatric Specialty population at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital. The treatments include but are not limited to apheresis, chemotherapy, biotherapy, immunotherapy, blood transfusions, hydration and electrolyte therapy, injections and blood draws, enzymes and iron infusions, and antibiotics. The center consists of 13 chairs/beds and treatments include research and standard of care infusions. The infusion centers are staffed by Nurses, Medical Assistants, and a Practice Coordinator.

Required Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of recent (within the last 5 years) pediatric outpatient Infusion experience administering chemotherapy/biotherapy.
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of California
  • Current American Heart Association CPR Certification
  • Current APHON Biotherapy/Chemotherapy Provider Certification within 6 months of hire date.
  • Apheresis experience in therapeutic plasma exchange, red cell exchange, and/or stem cell collection
  • Experience administering infusions, pain management, transfusion therapy, hydration, etc.
  • Must demonstrate observational skills and the ability to set priorities. Ability to function independently and effectively with shifting priorities and considerable pressure.
  • Must be able to function under stress and with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to delegate tasks in a style that is consistent with promoting leadership and teamwork, seeking assistance as needed; ability to demonstrate leadership experience that support teamwork, professionalism, high quality patient experience, evidence based clinical practice, or other relevant topics.
  • Demonstrates ability to develop and maintain constructive and cooperative working relationships with physicians, nurses, and other medical staff. Contributes to team building through participation in unit programs and meetings; contributes to positive morale, using constructive and effective conflict resolution skills.
  • The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Health locations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three (3) or more years of Pediatric Oncology Nursing experience.
  • CPHON Certification or other relevant specialty certification
  • Membership in professional organizations is recommended
  • PALS

License/Certification

  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of California
