StreetCred's mission is to build prosperity and improve health and health equity for families and children by leveraging trust in health care providers and empowering people to confidently navigate financial systems.

StreetCred, a program of Boston Medical Center (BMC), focuses on underutilized opportunities for economic stability and mobility that have been associated with improvements in health equity.

It has been operating free tax preparation services in pediatric clinics since 2016.

The program successfully scaled from one site in Boston to a national technical support network (the Medical Tax Collaborative) of 23 health clinics and hospitals in 10 states & D.C.

StreetCred's Medical Tax Collaborative has returned over $16.8 million to over 7,500 families.

Our suite of services for parents of newborns at BMC also includes financial coaching and enrollment in an economic bundle:

tax preparation plus 529 College Savings Accounts (CSAs), paid family leave, WIC, SNAP, and the BMC Food pantry, and HUD's Family Self-Sufficiency Program (FSS).

Working closely with the StreetCred team, the StreetCred Expansion/Economic Justice Hub VISTA will help to expand current StreetCred programming in Pediatrics into two additional BMC departments:
Family Medicine and OB/GYN.

The VISTA member will contribute significantly to our mission by ensuring fidelity to StreetCred's Economic Mobility Bundle, capturing and maintaining critical data points, and developing and improving workflows across all three BMC departments.

Additionally, the VISTA member will develop plans to engage pediatric families to enroll in our economic bundle of services, share our work internally and externally in new ways, and integrate health equity into all aspects of our communications.


Member Duties:

StreetCred Expansion & Economic Justice Hub VISTA member will scale the Economic Bundle program into two BMC Departments (Family Medicine and OB/GYN).

The VISTA will work with the StreetCred team to create systems, workplans, and communication strategies to effectively expand the Economic Bundle work beyond BMC's Pediatric Department.


Tasks include:

Tracking key performance measures, developing systems to monitor patient Economic Bundle enrollment, supporting financial coaching program and tax site, creating and implementing a social media engagement plan; creating print flyers detailing StreetCred services; collaborating with Boston Medical Center's Communications team to further spread strategic StreetCred messaging; expanding our communications to include news related to economic mobility topics; creating website content and updating our website; maintaining and documenting communications policies and procedures; coordinating quarterly Health by Wealth virtual meetings.
