Compensation:
Base salary $90,000 - $120,000 depending on qualifications and experience; competitive benefits package


Position Summary:


The Director of Campus Safety is responsible for developing and implementing programs and strategies to improve the safety and security of students, staff, and property.

This includes collaborating with administration in providing a safe and welcoming learning environment for all students and staff members, developing a comprehensive professional development plan for safety and support personnel, and developing a comprehensive campus safety, crisis, and threat assessment plan.


Position Responsibilities:


  • Hire, supervise and monitor the responsibilities and duties for all Safety and Support staff.
  • Work as a collaborative team member with the District Administration, staff, parents and community resource agencies to meet all safety requirements of the Illinois State Board of Education.
  • Serve as a special liaison between the District, local, county, state and federal police, and fire officials. During an identified school emergency, lead communication with these organizations as part of the District Incident Command structure.
  • Ensure that security equipment (radios, cameras, attendance management systems, visitor management system, etc.) are in proper working order.
  • Maintain systems and structures to support student discipline in the building, on the school grounds, at school events, and on buses to ensure a positive, safe learning environment.
  • Supervise, lead and develop the capacity of the Assistant Director of Campus Safety and the Supervisor of Campus Safety.
  • Schedule and assign staff as appropriate for daily and special events.
  • Schedule and plan required allschool safety drills.
  • Meet and/or communicate with the Campus Safety Team weekly to keep them informed of issues as they arise, and to provide direction and feedback on their work.
  • Provide training for all Safety and Support Staff in nonviolent conflict resolution and customer service.
  • Provide training for faculty on roles and procedures during an emergency incident.
  • Evaluate on an annual basis some or all safety and support staff. Provide future goals for safety and support personnel.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and others in the community to develop and maintain a positive schoolcommunity relationship.
  • Meet monthly, or as needed, to review building schedules and usage with the Assistant Principal of Operations, Director of Buildings and Grounds, Food Service Director, Athletic Director, Activities Director, Calendar Coordinator, Principal, or other appropriate officials.
  • Manage and approve electronic payroll and time off requests for Safety and Security Staff.
  • Develop and monitor the annual Safety and Support budget.
  • Provide feedback and recommendations to the teacher supervisory model to assure adequate hall monitoring. Review and establish school policy and objectives with the administrative team to facilitate effective campus safety.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Principal of Operations or Principal.

Knowledge and Critical Skills:


  • Possess thorough knowledge and understanding of laws that pertain to school safety and security.
  • Have strong interpersonal communications skills in order to meet all of the needs of organizing and directing a complex institution.
  • Must be able to prepare reports as required by the Illinois State Board of Education concerning evacuation and safety.
  • Maintain confidentiality and appropriate records when dealing with security matters.
  • Build positive and professional relationships with students and leverage those relationships to establish and maintain productive and safe learning environments and common areas of the building.
  • Exercise dignity and respect when interacting with students at all times.
  • Provide training for staff to deescalate inappropriate student behaviors and assist students with maximizing their time on task in classrooms.
  • Demonstrate commitment to social justice and restorative justice practices.
  • Keep abreast of current best practices and procedures in school safety and security.

Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's Degree required, Masters Degree preferred; campus safety/security, criminal justice or related field preferred; Professional Educator License (PEL) Administrative Endorsement preferred.
  • Experience training staff and implementing restorative practices in school.
  • Law enforcement knowledge and/or experience.
  • Experience in crisis management, investigation of individuals/or incidents, facility security personnel protection
