Job DescriptionJob Title: Permit Technician/ Drafter
Work in the office. Remote working is not an option.
Salary Range:** $25 - $29 per hour (More can be negotiated if experienced in pulling permits for the pool construction industry)
**Position Type:** Full-time, Immediate Start
**Job Summary:**
As the Permit Technician/ Drafter, you will oversee the operations of the permit department, ensuring the efficient processing and issuance of permits. This is a managerial role that requires extensive experience in the construction, architecture, and engineering fields. You will be responsible for leading a team, managing workflows, and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and standards.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Manage and lead the permit department, including supervising staff and coordinating activities.
- Review and process permit applications for construction projects, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Review drawings per customer's red lines, and/or field dimensions.
- Liaise with architects, engineers, contractors, and regulatory agencies to facilitate the permit approval process.
- Answers and responds to phone calls and emails in a timely manner to ensure high levels of customer service to clients and internally.
- Reviews blueprints, submissions and plans for completeness and compliance with basic code requirements.
- You have prior experience with working with municipalities
- Provide guidance and support to team members on complex permit issues and procedures.
- Develop and implement departmental policies and procedures to improve efficiency and service quality.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant codes, regulations, and industry best practices.
- Prepare and present reports on permit activities and departmental performance to senior management.
- Address and resolve any issues or conflicts related to permit processing and issuance.
- Customer communication throughout the permit application process
**Qualifications:**
- Work experience with pools and landscape permitting
- Prior experience in drafting role is preferred
- Strong understanding of drafting standards, best practices, and blueprint interpretation
- Capable of working in a fast-paced environment
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in permit processing within the construction, architecture, or engineering industries.
- Proven leadership and managerial skills, with experience in supervising and developing teams.
- In-depth knowledge of building codes, zoning laws, and other regulatory requirements.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Proficiency in permit management software and other relevant computer applications.
- Certification as a Permit Technician or equivalent is preferred.
