RTX Technology Research Center (RTRC) is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Lab Technician to support our dynamic Heat Transfer Team.

In this role, you will work closely with Research Engineers to facilitate experimental research activities and ensure the smooth operation of our laboratory facilities.

As a member of our team, you will play a crucial role in contributing to the advancement of cutting-edge technologies in thermal engineering in the aerospace and defense industry.

What You Will Do:

  • Set up and conduct experiments related to fluid and thermal test loops.
  • Perform custom electrical wiring to support experimental systems including data acquisition systems.
  • Construct and troubleshoot test systems relating to flow loops, refrigerant loops, power electronics, high pressure and temperature systems, combustion systems, and/or mechanical test fixturing.
  • Construct test systems with mínimal specifications and work with research engineers to recommend improvements to hardware test plans.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and instrumentation to ensure accuracy and reliability in experimental measurements and data collection.
  • Prepare and organize experimental setups, including the assembly of test rigs, fabrication of test samples, and installation of sensors and measurement devices.
  • Identify safety risks and follow all established safety practices.
  • Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot technical issues, identify opportunities for improvements, and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Maintain a clean and organized laboratory environment, including inventory management, storage, and waste disposal, in compliance with safety regulations and laboratory protocols.
  • Other relevant skills may include LabVIEW, machining, fabrication, welding, brazing, soldering, experience with laser systems.

Qualification You Must Have:


  • Technical certification from trade school or equivalent.
  • Handson experience with customized mechanical systems, such as HVAC systems or aerospace systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow experimental procedures and safety protocols accurately.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to achieve common objectives.
  • U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee or asylee) or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations required.

  • This position is based in East Hartford, CT, and will require onsite presence to support laboratory activities.
