Description

Responsibilities:


  • Collaborate with executive team to develop and implement communications strategies that promote the program and services of the YWCA of Queens
  • Maintain a consistent brand and voice in all of YWCAQ communications
  • Maintain and grow new relationships with ethnic and mainstream media; write press releases and distribute to media; attend press conferences and generate summaries and quotes
  • Identify and develop relationships with community partners and agencies to promote our services and events
  • Work cooperatively with the staff to market key events and campaigns.
  • Attend meetings with community partners, agencies, founders on behalf of YWCAQ
  • Assist Social Media Coordinator with managing social media presence, including content creation and curation.
  • Work with leadership to identify media opportunities and implement campaigns around key programs and events
  • Coordinate media requests and follow up, while serving as a media contact as needed
  • Prep YWCAQ staff for media appearances and interviews
  • Meet weekly with Executive Director
  • Attend monthly YWCAQ staff meetings.
  • Occasional weekend/evening work may be required
  • Assist with other internal and external communications duties as needed
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned by the Executive Director

Qualifications:


  • A bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism or related field required.
  • 12 years of experience in communications or similar field (internship experience included), preferably in a notforprofit organization.
  • Demonstrated interest in YWCAQ mission
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to respond adeptly to rapidly changing priorities and successfully manage multiple initiatives at once
  • Strong interpersonal skills with an outgoing and open personal style
  • Ability to work effectively and independently but also as a member of a team
  • Demonstrated success working developing effective working relationships with staff, board members, and vendors
  • Meticulous attention to detail and excellent time/task management skills
  • Experience with online marketing tools, social media platforms, and publishing software
  • Bilingual in Korean very strong plus as Communication Coordinator will have contact with Korean speaking media on a regular basis.
