Carpentry and Structural Specialist (With $3K New Hire Bonus Payment)

About NRHA Founded in 1940, the Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority (NRHA) provides low-income families in Norfolk, Virginia with safe and well-maintained housing. It also plans and administers large-scale residential redevelopment programs within Norfolk.

Key responsibilitiesof this position include:


  • Performing skilled cabinet work.
  • Manufacturing and installing counter tops.
  • Performing door and window carpentry.
  • Performing standard carpentry and structural repairs to buildings and residences.
  • Performing interior carpentry finishing work.
  • Performing foundation masonry assignments, as directed.
  • Performing sidewalk, driveway, and related concrete repairs and installations as directed.
  • Performing standard cleanup tasks at the completion of work projects.
  • Performing basic cost and material estimating for routine work assignments or projects.
  • Constructing, repairing, and designing miscellaneous wood or structural items such as wheelchair ramps, office furniture, and table tops.
  • Leading and instructing lesser skilled carpentry and structural staff in performing carpentry assignments.
  • Maintaining and submitting accurate and complete work documentation.
  • Performs miscellaneous shop and maintenance duties as assigned, such as standard shop housekeeping and tool maintenance.
  • A High School diploma or General Education Development (GED) certificate.
  • Threetofive years of work experiencecarpentry, framing, cabinet making, cornices, and concrete.
  • A valid and current driver's licenseand satisfactory driving record.
  • RAM set license or ability to obtain such a license.
  • Personal carpentry hand tools.
  • The ability to lift 30 to 60 pound objects, alone or with assistance.

NRHA offers a total of $3,000 in bonus payments to new hires in this position. A 90-day employment period is required to qualify for the full bonus amount.
