JOB TITLE:
Education Guidance Counselor
FLSA STATUS:
Non-exempt
Salary:
$30.95
SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Family Preservation Services Manager ("Manager") this position
will primarily be responsible for providing TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) youth
clients educational information and assistance regarding a variety of topics including teen pregnancy
prevention, substance abuse, health and wellness as well as academic options and career related paths.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Including but not limited to the following duties
and responsibilities.
- Develop and implement educational programming for all youth clients
- Create and support client with a Youth Personal Responsibility Plan
- Assess and collaborate with client's assigned Case Worker to determine programming for school aged youth
- Assist clients in calculating and creating a budget for educational related costs
- Conduct evaluations and determine client's needs including atrisk students
- Provide guidance on completing forms for scholarships and college entrance documents i.e. transcripts, financial aid, GED/HiSet requirements, and expungements
- Support clients in addressing issues with outside school administrators, faculty and community, if needed research methods to remove possible barriers
- Occasionally drive to transport client to a variety of events or to get supplies for programs
- Participate in client orientations
- Coach and provide guidance during IEP meetings at schools/district
- Prepare a variety of records and reports
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Attend mandatory trainings

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each
and/or abilities required.
KNOWLEDGE OF:
- Educational and graduation requirements for high school, college and vocational schools
- Assessing and developing educational and career plans/goals
- Time management methods and tools
- Laws, regulations, policies, rules and practices related to assigned activities
- Principles of confidentiality and developing trusting relationships
- Health and safety regulations
ABILITY TO:
- Speak in public to a group and present information
- Effectively listen and communicate with clients
- Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other departments
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Operate standard office and classroom equipment including a computer and assigned software
- Work with mínimal supervision on assigned duties
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
An equivalent combination of education and related work
experience may be considered. Two (2) years of related work experience will be equal to 30 college
credits and vice versa.
- Associates degree in Psychology, Sociology, Liberal Arts, Education or related field and four
field OR
- High school diploma or equivalency certificate GED/HiSet and four (4) years of related work
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS:
To perform and to continue to be qualified
for this position, the requirements listed below must be met at a time of hire or may be obtained within a
specific amount of time depending on the position requirements. Costs for required certifications,
licenses, and registration are to be covered by employee, unless offered by the Tribe.
- Educational certifications
- Prior to hiring and throughout employment, must possess a valid California Class C driver's license and maintain insurability under the Tribe's vehicle insurance policy
- Requires defensive driving training every two (2) years
- Requires driver to be at least 21 years of age in order to transport minors
- Mandated reporting training required and maintained throughout employment Requires throughout employment maintaining a CPR/AED/First Aid Card or Certification
