Biolog Lab Services founded the DNA sequencing method for microbial identification and has, for over two decades, delivered critical, time-sensitive ID for pharmaceutical, probiotic, food and beverage, and personal care manufacturing customers.
At our Newark, DE site we provide laboratory services where, in addition to our phenotypic characterization tools we offer a full polyphasic approach for microbial ID, including genotypic and proteotypic services.
What's the Job all About?
As a DNA Scientist, you will be responsible for all technical and logistic aspects of sample processing and communicating with Customers
Some additional responsibilities include:
- Effective processing of samples to meet Customer expectations.
- Manages time and equipment to provide results within key turnaround times.
- Prepares all laboratory supplies including manufacture of reagents and media, cleaning of tools and equipment, stocking laboratory and warehouse with consumables; documents receipt of goods and notifies Laboratory Management of supply needs and resource status.
- Performs standard microbiology procedures including handling, growth, and purification of cultures.
- Performs microbial identification procedures including receipt of samples, DNA extraction, PCR amplification, sequencing, performs required data entry, and runs associated equipment (e.g., sequencers, MALDI-TOF).
- Follows all safety requirements for laboratory operation and use and disposal of chemical and biohazardous waste.
- Makes suggestions for process improvements.
- Performs test cases as part of validation processes.
- Communicate with Customers regarding sample processing, escalate Customer inquiries outside of this scope to the manager as needed.
Requirements:

- Bachelor's degree in Life Science
- Familiarity with multiple regulatory requirements
- Computer skills
- Microsoft Office Suite
- 1 year of experience in a technical setting

Additional information:
Typical working hours are Monday
- Friday 8am5pm with occasional work on weekends required.

- Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
- Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
- Operate a computer with time spent looking at monitor about 70% of the time
- Move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
- Potential exposure to odors, fumes, airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, and microbiological pathogens
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Color vision and depth perception
