Key Responsibilities:

The Director of Aircraft Programs Engineering leads the aircraft induction and customer experience modification engineering teams at United.

The Director will lead the technical coordination of aircraft specifications and aircraft Service Ready process in partnership with the OEMs to monitor and improve entry-into-service aircraft performance.

To achieve improved fleet reliability, the Director will analyze factory defects, OEM quality rework logs, in-service interruption events, pilot reports, component removals, deferrals data, etc.

and drive root cause and corrective actions with the OEMs.

The Director will also lead a team responsible for aircraft customer experience modifications and coordinate the review of the technical data and cost estimation as well as the induction projects for used aircraft.

To execute these aircraft projects, the Director will collaborate with OEMs, internal teams, and suppliers to ensure technical requirements, costs and schedules are met.

  • This position is based in Seattle, Chicago, or Houston
  • Travel up to 50% depending on base location including international travel is required. Team members are based in Chicago, San Francisco, Houston, and India.
  • Support outside of normal working hours for our 24/7 operation may be required.
  • US citizenship required.

Safety and compliance - Ensure that new and used aircraft inducted meet United and Federal Aviation Regulation requirements. Addressing and follow up on all factory or post-delivery quality defects ensures conformity, safety and compliance.


Reliability - ensure that inducted aircraft are operating reliably and reliability drivers because of the factory or induction processes are addressed. Assess production incorporations in advance for impact on United procedures and identify reliability risks.


Team development - develop the New Aircraft Engineering team to grow talent and technical expertise across our diverse fleet. Perform hiring and review functions to ensure top performance on an ongoing basis.


Project management - guide the development and delivery of complex projects, coordination of service ready programs on multiple fleet types to prepare the airlines to accept the fleet and drive cross functional coordination of reconfiguration and modification projects as well as technical coordination of new and used aircraft programs.


Continuous improvement - ensure an end to end closed and continuous feedback loop with the OEMs on new entry into service performance and follow up on items that interrupt dispatch reliability of new aircraft. Improve the service ready process and coordinate improvements across multiple work groups. Drive and demonstrate that aircraft deliveries of tomorrow are performing better than those of today.


Qualifications:


What's needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):

  • Bachelor's Degree (Aviation Management or Engineering)
  • 3+ years management experience,
  • 7+ years engineering experience
  • Extensive knowledge of FARs (Federal Aviation Regulation), airworthiness design and substantiation criteria, aircraft and equipment design and operational characteristics, aircraft materials and processes.
