JOB SUMMARY

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support academically "atrisk" students and make recommendations regarding retention and dismissal.
  • Teach First Year Experience classes to incoming students.
  • Assist in planning and implementation of orientation, advising, and related programs.
  • Maintain accurate electronic notes and communications for future reference.
  • Serve as a resource for students, faculty, and others and make referrals when necessary.
  • Attend and/or conduct events/meetings for the campus, office, or department.
  • Maintain appropriate records and assist in compiling statistical reports.
  • Work as part of a team that provides advising primarily for first and secondyear students.
  • Assist in writing and/or editing informational materials.
  • Serve on campus or university committees as required.
  • Perform related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Three years of postbaccalaureate experience in academic counseling or advising.
  • Experience with and commitment to working with historically excluded and racially oppressed students.
  • The ability to effectively communicate policies and procedures to faculty, staff, and students.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in Higher Education and Student Affairs, Counseling, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering an antiracist and inclusive campus environment.
  • Three or more years postgraduate experience counseling/advising undergraduate students in a higher education setting.
  • Experience counseling or advising academically atrisk students in a higher education setting.
  • Knowledge of undergraduate programs and degree requirements at the University of Connecticut.
  • Experience working in Peoplesoft or similar system(s) in higher education.
