    Melick & Porter is seeking an Associate Attorney to join our insurance defense law firm located in Southbury, Connecticut. Attorneys have regular contact with clients, carriers, and the court, with the opportunity to gain great litigation experience. This position offers the opportunity for independence and growth, while still providing mentoring, oversight, and a collegial, supportive environment. The ideal candidate must possess at least two years of experience and an active license to practice law in Connecticut. New York Bar admission not a requirement, but a plus.

    Roles & Responsibilities - Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Analyze complex legal and factual issues, conduct extensive, well-reasoned legal research, independently develop and present defense strategies on behalf of clients.
    • Prepare complex pleadings, written discovery, depositions (fact/expert witness), motions, and briefs in support of defense strategies.
    • Provide effective and timely communications, information, legal advice, and other services to clients and claims on legal and factual issues.
    • Communicate with the court, witnesses, opposing counsel, and co-counsel in a prompt, professional and productive manner consistent with established office procedures.
    • Responsible for the prompt, efficient, and effective disposition of assigned cases.
    • Assist in preparing and presenting witnesses and evidence at trials, judicial and administrative hearings, arbitrations, and alternative dispute resolutions.

    About you

    • Bachelor's degree with J.D., and admission to the Connecticut bar. New York Bar admission not a requirement, but a plus
    • Minimum 2-3 years of experience in insurance defense or a litigation setting
    • Litigation Experience required (e.g., taking and defending depositions, preparation and filing of discovery and related motions, oral argument experience, etc.)
    • Strong writing skills
    • Strong attention to detail
    • Excellent work ethic
