- Provide sign language interpretation for students in various educational settings, including classrooms, assemblies, and extracurricular activities.
- Facilitate communication between deaf or hard of hearing students, their peers, and educational staff.
- Adapt and modify interpreting techniques to match the communication needs and preferences of individual students.
- Collaborate with teachers and support staff to ensure that students have access to the curriculum and can participate fully in school activities.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in all interpreting assignments.
- Monitor and report on student progress and any communication barriers that may arise.
- Participate in IEP meetings and provide input on the communication needs of students.
- Assist students with transitioning into a general education classroom as necessary
- Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of 4.0 or higher or RID certification
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and other relevant communication methods.
- Experience working in a school setting with elementary-aged students preferred.
- Strong understanding of deaf culture and the unique needs of deaf and hard of hearing students.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, and parents.
