SUMMARY OF POSITION


Under the general direction of Plant Managers, the Worker's Compensation, Safety and Training Supervisor plans, evaluates, reviews, coordinates, reports on, and conducts a wide variety of training and safety planning and implementation for the Operations Division.

Exercises considerable judgment in planning, coordinating, records maintenance, and reporting on safety and training activities of department staff.

Keeps abreast of regulations governing safe work practices and develops or modifies procedures as necessary to ensure practices are compliant with state and federal requirements.

Functions as lead facilitator to demonstrate safe work practices, instruction, and operation of hand tools, light, and large equipment. Coordinates ongoing CDL training and requirements Performs related duties as assigned.


Safety and Training Supervisor
This is the full journey level in the series. This position differs from the lower level by the level of complexity, sensitivity, independence, and diversity of assignments.

Employee has full responsibility for a variety of safety and training activities, including developing and/or refining policies, procedures, and related items.

Employee must also demonstrate the knowledge and the ability to deal independently with complex and sensitive issues; they lead an area of operational function; lead or manage small to mid-sized projects; they work independently with mínimal supervision and receive only occasional instructions or assistance as new or unusual situations arise.


RESPONSIBILITIES- Government relations, and visual communications


ESSENTIAL DUTIES- Monitor the removal of physical or chemical hazards from the workplace.

  • Provide safety training for employees on policies, regulations, and procedures.
  • Advise the company's operations team on safety issues and compliance in specific projects and operations.
  • Inspect and verify company compliance with relevant safety regulations.
  • Maintain accurate and current records in accordance with guidelines.
  • Analyze incident reports, metrics, and injury case studies in order to institute changes that lead to a safer environment.
  • Develop and execute health and safety plans in the workplace according to legal guidelines
  • Prepare and enforce policies to establish a culture of health and safety
  • Evaluate practices, procedures and facilities to assess risk and adherence to the law
  • Conduct training and presentations for health and safety matters and accident prevention
  • Monitor compliance to policies and laws by inspecting employees and operations
Inspect equipment and machinery to observe possible unsafe conditions

  • Investigate accidents or incidents to discover causes and handle worker's compensation claims
  • Recommend solutions to issues, improvement opportunities or new prevention measures
  • Report on health and safety awareness, issues and statistics
  • Collaborates with management to develop an Emergency Action Plan and serve as primary contact for project site injury and incident notification, investigation, and case management. Maintains a written log of safety inspection activities, reports and correspondence.
  • Guarantees that all work is performed in accordance with approved manuals, internal policies and procedures, contract documents and good engineering practices.
  • Provide technical support to project managers.
  • Develops and maintains project cost/change controls and project budget.
  • Reports the status of projects to business.
  • Participates in team meetings and organizes and oversees company safety committee.
  • Assures safe and effective operation of light and heavy equipment used by the department.
