DIVISION:


The Goodwill Excel Center, founded in 2014, is the first free public charter high school in Texas that provides adults ages 18-50 the opportunity to earn their high school diploma, complete an in-demand professional certification, and begin post-secondary education.

The Excel center offers programming that is specific to the adult learner experience such as, accelerated academics and flexible scheduling, special programs, and resources and supportive services to help students remove barriers they may encounter during their educational journey.

Currently, The Excel center has three Austin-area campuses that serve both day and evening students in addition to two Justice Education campuses, located in Lockhart and Overton, TX.

***: The primary role of the Child Development Specialist is to implement high quality exceptional care and education to children in the Exploration Center. This position will be responsible for the overall well-being of children in the center and will be dedicated to the growth and development of each of our children.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Provide quality early care and education to young children by planning and implementing developmentally appropriate activities in socialemotional, physical, language, cognitive, literacy, mathematics, science and technology, social studies, and the arts domains.
  • Provide a safe and healthy environment.
  • Maintain compliance with all DHHS Minimum Standards for Regulated Centers and Texas Rising Star Standards.
  • Supervise and model appropriate practices.
  • Observe and document children's developmental milestones; develop children's portfolios; maintain records and assessments (formal and informal assessment tools).
  • Provide optimal coordination of home and Center in terms of researchbased teaching and parenting; schedule and conduct parent/teacher conferences.
  • Complete departmental forms such as attendance records, anecdotal records, accident reports, health and safety checks, lesson plans, etc.
  • Complete mandatory training requirements (Pediatric First Aid/CPR, Child Abuse Training, Pre-Service Training, and Annual Training) minimum of 30 hours annually.
  • Communicate in a positive, professional manner following NAEYC Professional Code of Ethical Conduct.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Maintain a clean and safe physical environment for children (cleaning, sanitizing and organizing areas).
  • Ensures there are ample materials to allow children to make choices and explore a variety of interests.
  • Assist parents with stages of development.
  • Communicate center policy to staff and parents.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Child Development Associate (CDA) credentials or oneyear certificate in Early Childhood Education or Child Care Administrator Certificate; or twelve higher education credits from an accredited institution in early childhood education child development, elementary education, and/or early childhood special education.
  • Accredited, inperson Pediatric CPR/First Aid certification (must be obtained within 30 days of hire).
  • Two years of experience working with infants, toddlers and/or preschoolers in a regulated childcare center/educational facility serving children birth through kindergarten.
  • Must be able to understand work instructions in English.
  • Communication skills to be able to work on a team as well as interact with parents in a professional manner.
  • Ability to respond to a child's needs promptly and courteously.
  • Ability to safely lift children throughout the day.
  • Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing and bending for the majority of the shift.
  • Exhibit respect for diversity of thought and have experience to advance it in teams/organization.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development.
  • Bilingual in Spanish or Arabic and English.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

$19.00/hour depending on experience and qualifications.
