Position Summary :

The Director, Business Development will lead and manage the Business Development team responsible for the entire business development life cycle.

This includes identifying and qualifying new business leads/opportunities, interpreting technical requirements and technical writing, bid estimation, developing robust capture plans, creating winning proposals, and creating and maintaining outstanding customer relationships to facilitate organic growth.

The Director, Business Development role requires the necessary business development and marketing skills and a proven track-record in aerospace (preferably space) with government agencies, major defense primes and space developers in a dynamic fast-paced environment.


The targeted pursuits fall in the following categories:
national security space, commercial, exploration/civil, foreign markets, and adjacent markets.


Supervisory Responsibilities:


  • Oversees the business development staff.
  • Assigns, plans, and oversees the work of business development staff.
  • Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
  • Handles discipline and termination of employees as needed and in accordance with company policy.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Hire, train, and manage the Business Development team including work assignments (leads, opportunities, and activities).
  • Assume principal role in identifying, pursuing and capturing new opportunities/customers.
  • Lead complex captures and secure orders for both research and development (new or enhanced products) and buildtoprint products.
  • Oversee and review bid and proposal activities of various complexity in a sole source or competitive environment and demonstrate leadership, business acumen, technical knowledge, teamwork and prompt response to customer enquiries.
  • Collaborates with internal staff and departments as well as external customers and suppliers to effectively manage daytoday business development activities.
  • Build and establish a wide network of customers and partners within the space industry, leveraging existing company business relationships and create new business relationships.
  • Develop strategic partnerships to enable longrange business plans.
  • Be knowledgeable of company's products and product roadmaps (in the context of technical sales) and understand and effectively communicate Innoflight's value proposition and differentiators to customers.
  • Strong prioritization skills in order to meet tight deadlines
  • Participate in conferences and tradeshows.
  • Develop and/or deliver marketing/bid presentations, white papers, product literature, etc.
  • Work closely with the marketing department to meet business development goals.
  • Document business development activities in Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and organize files in M-Files for configuration management.
  • Work closely with and report status to Executive team.
  • Enhance business development processes and procedures over time in a continuous improvement environment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace or a related field required.
  • 12 or more years of business development or technical sales experience required.
  • Businessrelated degree is a plus.
  • Experience in management and/or leadership is required.
  • Experience in aerospace and/or electronics industry required (space industry preferred)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Business acumen including contract negotiation skills.
  • Knowledge of terms and conditions is a plus.
  • Strong problemsolving skills and ability to think creatively to identify solutions to complex technical/contractual issues.
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance.
