The Role

  • Directs all phases of programs from inception through completion. Responsible for the cost, schedule and technical performance of company programs or subsystems of major programs. Participates in the negotiation of contract and contract changes. Coordinates the preparation of proposals, business plans, proposal work statements and specifications, operating budgets and financial terms/conditions of contract. Acts as primary customer contact for program activities, leading program review sessions with customer to discuss cost, schedule, and technical performance. Establishes design concepts, criteria and engineering efforts for product research, development, integration and test. Develops new business or expands the product line with the customer. Establishes milestones and monitors adherence to master plans and schedules, identifies program problems and obtains solutions, such as allocation of resources or changing contractual specifications. Directs the work of employees assigned to the program from technical, manufacturing and administrative areas.
  • This position will focus on reviewing/approving/overseeing the various aircraft carrier related R&D tasks. The position will also work with the customer to provide regular updates on various tasks to assess customer interest. The position will be expected to obtain millions of dollars of direct funding for design development efforts. The position will also manage the new Ford Class Design Support contract once it is in place. In the interim, the manager in this position will oversee various tasks that are authorized via TI from a few different existing contracts.
    Must Have
  • Bachelor's Degree and 8 years of applicable, progressive professional and/or supervisory work experience; Master's Degree and 6 years of relevant experienceOne of the following may be used as equivalent to Bachelor's Degree to meet minimum qualifications:
  • NNS Apprentice School graduate
  • Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate
  • Associate's Degree or other formal 2 year program and 2 years of relevant exempt experience or 4 years of relevant nonexempt experience
  • Military Paygrade E5 or above military experience
  • High School/GED and 4 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant exempt experience
  • High School/GED and 8 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant nonexempt experience

Nice to Have- Experience working with the Research & Development processes

  • Experience managing many projects simultaneously
  • Good at working with others in a matrixed organization where most individuals providing support do not directly work for the manager in this position
  • Strong communication skills
  • Experience working with the Navy customer
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to think independently
  • Several years of aircraft carrier design experience
