Job Summary:


A CSA Designer supports the Civil Structural Architectural (CSA) design team during all phases of industrial capital projects from conceptual design to start-up across AdvanSix plants.

This position offers a wide variety of different projects to work on from simple to complex industrial components, such as concrete pads, foundations, steel pipe supports, structural steel support frames and platforms, stair & ladders, sewers & drainage, paving, architectural building modifications, and much more.

Most projects are retrofit (brown field) construction. This position is full time, direct hire, based out of Hopewell, VA.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Learn, understand, and comply with all plant safety programs, rules and regulations to with HS&E (Health, Safety, & Environmental) procedures and regulations.
  • Learn, and use all required PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) while working in all areas of the plant properly.
  • Ensure design drawings are compliant with federal, state, local, and plant codes/policies as required.
  • Work with other CSA engineers, designers, and other disciplines to collaborate and create 3D CAD models and design drawings.
  • Utilize AutoCAD and CADWorx Structure software to create 2D & 3D models and drawings for the various designs.
  • Create and navigate Navisworks models.
  • Learn and utilize plant engineering standards and procedures.
  • Conduct site visits for field verification of existing conditions in an operating chemical manufacturing facility.
  • Read and search for existing plant drawings as well as OEM equipment drawings.
  • Review shop drawings from fabricators
  • Work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Utilize Microsoft Office products to communicate with project and plant teams and to create project deliverables.
  • Support plant operations with location and marking of underground utilities.

Required Qualifications:


  • Experience in 3D modeling utilizing AutoCAD
  • Experience with MS Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.)
  • Basic understanding of industrial facilities
  • Basic personal safety awareness and PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) requirements
  • Ability to communicate with others, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to receive direction from senior designers & engineers
  • Ability to work independently and in a multifunctional team environment

Qualifications, Skills, and Experiences:


  • Experience in an industrial manufacturing facility (chemical, pulp/paper, refinery, etc.)
  • Experience with Structural design practices and materials (ie. steel, concrete)
  • Experience with Civil design practices and materials (ie. Subsurface pipes, paving, drainage, etc.)
  • Understanding of Industry design codes (i.e. ASCE, AISC, ACI, PIP, AASHTO etc.), or building code requirements (i.e. IBC)
  • Use of Subsurface utility locators (i.e. Ground Penetration Radar, Pipe & Cable locator)
  • Education: High school diploma, associate degree, or technical training
  • AutoCAD User's certification
  • Ability to create Bill of Materials (BOM) or Material Take Off (MTO) documents

Working Conditions:

Working conditions are mostly office-based working on a computer. As each job requires, field work will be needed.

Field work includes walking, climbing ladders, stairs, & platforms to measure or verify conditions in an operating chemical plant environment.

Fire Resistant uniforms are provided, but some areas require additional PPE such as acid suits and shields.
