Under the general direction of the Presiding Workers' Compensation Judge and the Supervising Workers' Compensation Consultant, the Workers' Compensation Consultant (WCC) assists parties, whether represented by counsel or not, by providing general public information concerning workers' compensation benefits and procedures.

Working Conditions


This position is located:
224 Airport Parkway, Suite 600
San Jose, CA

The incumbent will work 40 hours per week in an office setting equipped with standard office equipment. Air conditioned, in a high-rise building with elevator access, cubicle with natural and artificial lighting.


Once formal training has concluded, part time telework may be offered upon approval by the supervisor and consistent with DIR's Telework Policy.

Desirable Qualifications
Knowledge of principles, practices and procedures of the California Workers' Compensation System and Appeals Board.

  • Knowledge of Workers' Compensation Laws of California (Labor Code), regulations, and leading court decisions relating to workers' compensation coverage, insurance, rights to benefits, rules of practice.
  • Knowledge of Workers' compensation claims adjusting.
  • Knowledge of the schedule of rating of permanent impairment under the American Medical Association (AMA) Guides, 5th edition.
  • Knowledge of medical and anatomical terminology; Medical Treatment Utilization Schedule (MTUS) or other evidencedbased medical treatment guidelines.
  • Knowledge of forms used at the Workers' Compensation Appeals Board.
  • Knowledge of the purpose of the Workers' compensation Appeals Board and Division of Workers' Compensation.
  • Collecting, analyzing, and organizing documents and information.
  • Time management including assignment completion and attention to details.
