    Duties

    Under the supervision of the Regional Director, the Area Director supports the overall objectives of Joni and Friends' U.S. Ministries and will perform duties and responsibilities requiring special expertise including, but not limited to:

    1. Provide inspirational and operational leadership to the Area Ministry Area Team
      1. Oversee the recruiting, selecting, and equipping of Area Team members and leaders
      2. Meet regularly with Area Team leaders for the purpose of coaching and development
      3. Meet regularly with the local Ministry Area Team
      4. Funnel all ministry activities through the Area Team
    2. Establish an annual and long-range strategy and budgets for their AM office, both domestically and internationally that ensures growth, financial success and consistent achievement of the Joni and Friends mission, vision, and commission.
    3. Cultivate and maintain donor base through relationships, partnerships, and fundraisers
    4. Represent the local AM well and communicate appropriately and effectively with staff, volunteer teams, donors, churches, and community groups on ministry and financial status
    5. Recruitment, employment, development, and release of personnel, both staff and volunteers, in conjunction with Human Resource Services
    6. Participate in local and international Joni and Friends programs
    7. Maintain Budget Oversight
      1. Ensure that adequate funds are raised and are available to carry out Area Ministry programing and administration
      2. Responsible for developing and maintaining sound financial practices.
      3. Work with the staff in preparing a budget.
      4. Work with the Development Department to increase funding
    8. Work effectively with service departments to leverage partnerships for ministry success
    9. Other duties and projects as assigned by the Supervisor to support department and organizational needs

    Qualifications

    • Must possess a vibrant personal relationship with Jesus Christ and agree with the Joni and Friends statement of faith
    • Desire to serve in a growing and dynamic Christian service ministry
    • Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of five years organizational leadership and/or management – or equivalent
    • Proven ability to manage and grow fund development programs for non-profit organizations with budgets of $400,000+
    • Proven success implementing a strategic giving program for major donors
    • Love for the local church and understand church culture
    • Strategic thinker- ability to formulate and execute plans efficiently and effectively
    • Strong leadership and development experience. Ability to coach, train, and develop personnel
    • Ability to effectively communicate our mission verbally through one-on-one interactions and public speaking opportunities; strong oral/written communication skills
    • Innovative thinker with the ability to expand and improve the Area Ministry Office process, procedures, programs, reach, and community awareness
    • Able to travel (internationally and domestically) and work evenings, weekends as needed
    • Solid computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office software
    • Understanding of Christian ministry and specifically Joni and Friends is desirable

    Compensation: $81,000 - $87,000 per year (exempt).

    Every employee at Joni and Friends, regardless of their specific role is expected to grow and develop as a Christian Disability Ministry Leader (CDML). This implies a continuous journey of learning and involvement, where employees engage not only in Joni and Friends' programs but also extend their ministry efforts to their local Christ-honoring churches. This core competency includes:

    Active Participation – Actively participate in ministry, both within the organization and their local Christ-honoring churches (if possible and to what degree they are able), advocating for participation of people with disabilities

    Continuous Growth – Besides Lead Like Jesus and Beyond Suffering trainings, continue to develop in the realm of disability ministry

    Culture of Belonging Approach – Encourage a culture of belonging ensuring that the needs of the disability community are addressed with grace and understanding

    Integration of Faith and Work – Ensure that Christian values are a driving force in all aspects of work

    * Lead Like Jesus is a course of study provided to all employees and is based on the book written by Ken Blanchard and Phil Hodges of the same name. The Lead Like Jesus course is the model which governs our ministry culture and contributes significantly to Joni and Friends maintaining its certification as a "Best Christian Workplace" according to surveys by the Best Christian Workplace Institute (BCWI).
