YAI has an opening for a temporary, part-time Hearing Education Service provider to work at Manhattan Star Academy.

A Hearing Education Service (HES) provider is a master's-level teacher of the deaf and hard of hearing with an in-depth understanding of hearing loss and its impact on academic, social-emotional, literacy, and language development in an educational setting.

This position provides the opportunity to work cooperatively with classroom staff and related service providers to design and implement music activities that support our learners' independence as well as their academic and social emotional goals.

Essential Functions:

  • Trained to adapt or modify curriculum to meet the specialized needs of students with hearing loss
  • Targets Areas of Academic and Therapeutic Focus through specialized instruction designed to develop auditory, language, and conversational skills. Instruction can take place in the classroom or a designated location within the school building
  • Anticipates potential socialemotional and selfadvocacy challenges resulting from the student's hearing loss and works with the student to develop ageappropriate strategies to handle potential difficulties with confidence
  • Manages students' hearing assistive technology, such as hearing aids, including BAHAs, OSIAs, cochlear implants, and FM/DM systems
  • Provides training and ongoing support to classroom and building staff, including guidance on appropriate accommodations in the educational environment
  • Troubleshoots any problems that arise and supports students in achieving independent use of their hearing equipment
  • For any Hearing Assistive Technology that has been procured by the Department of Education (DOE), the HES provider is also responsible for communicating with the DOE audiologist and related professionals to acquire, manage, and troubleshoot any issues that arise with the equipment
  • Performs all other duties, as assigned

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

  • Master's Degree in Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education
  • NYS Certification-Deaf and Hard of Hearing

Compensation:
- $85 to $90/ Hour
