Principal Risk Specialist, Enterprise Data Risk Management

Principal Risk Specialists in EDRM are highly motivated Data Management and Risk professionals with excellent organization, problem-solving, influence and communication skills.

These individuals will have the opportunity to make sure Capital One has strong data management controls and practices and collaborate with other EDRM associates to make sure the appropriate data management processes and controls are implemented.

As part of the larger Operational Risk Management (ORM) organization, you will work with talented associates to provide oversight and effective challenge to ensure that our businesses effectively manage operational risk overall.

This includes enabling our organizations to maintain a sustainable and holistic operational risk profile in order to deliver superior products while also protecting our customers.

You'll also bring your unique perspective and experiences to help us be rigorous, curious and creative.


Specific responsibilities of the EDRM Risk Specialist include and are not limited to:

  • Manage EDRM Business Process Hierarchy, oversee maintenance of EDRM's process documentation and controls. Partner with members within EDRM as needed on creation of new processes and controls
  • Engage in ongoing maintenance of EDRM's Corporate Policy and Procedure documents and process. This includes managing the processes for regular reviews and updates of policy documents, socialization of changes, and engagement with key first line partners as needed.
  • Provide risk and process consulting within EDRM/ORM and with 1st line related to EDRM owned Corporate Policy documents
  • Support and prepare team leaders for interactions with Internal Audit and Regulatory agencies, as applicable
  • Foster a highly collaborative environment with other risk teams and various partner groups to create an integrated and seamless risk experience for the business (e.g., ORM partner teams, 1st line Data Management teams, Corporate Policy Office, Risk Offices)
  • Demonstrate strong communication, collaboration, problem solving and influencing skills across various levels of the organization
  • Stay current on understanding effective Data Management strategies, requirements, and industry trends

Basic Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's Degree or military experience
  • At least 2 years of experience in risk management
  • At least 1 year of experience managing processes or controls
  • At least 1 year of experience engaging with risk management frameworks

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Management, Computer Science, or Data Analytics
  • 3+ years of experience in risk management within financial services
  • Knowledge and understanding of data management practices, risks, and requirements
  • Experience managing corporate policy documents
