We engage our community members in opportunities to develop spiritually, socially, and academically in the Jesuit, Catholic tradition of the University.
Under the leadership of the Associate Vice President, Director of Residential Education, and Director of Operations, the department consists of 40 professional staff members, 24 graduate positions, 192 resident assistants, and additional student workers.
Residential Life seeks a dynamic and motivated candidate to serve as anArea Coordinator(two positions available).The Area Coordinator oversees the residential student experience across three communities, working to foster a positive living experience that centers community development and care of students.
Guided by Boston Colleges Jesuit tradition, the Area Coordinators efforts should be aimed at creating a supportive and engaging atmosphere where students can explore and deepen their understanding of themselves, their relationship to others, and their place in the world by living in a shared community.
By creating a residential environment that fosters reflection and dialogue, we strive to cultivate well-rounded individuals who are equipped to lead meaningful and purposeful lives.
Basic Function and Responsibility:
The Area Coordinator is a12-month, live-on, full-time professional staff member , responsible for three residential communities. The Area Coordinator lives with, serves, and provides support directly to students.
The AC supervises 2 full-time Resident Directors who each have responsibility for a residential community, and additionally directly oversees their own residential community including supervising a team of 9-14 Resident Assistants (RAs), 1-2 Graduate Assistants, and up to one Office Assistant (OA).In addition to supervision of professional staff and student leaders the primary functions of the Area Coordinator center on creating a supportive community for students including collaborating with campus stakeholders in support of overarching department goals and initiatives, ensuring a cohesive and comprehensive approach to residential education, directly conceptualizing and implementing initiatives to enhance community engagement and support services within area, addressing conduct issues, working with the Dean of Students Office for higher-level conduct matters, and overseeing utilization of resources including management of the area budget.
By personal example, the Area Coordinator strives to create a safe and inclusive environment for all students by living, reflecting, and expressing the values of a Jesuit and Catholic institution, as defined by the teachings of the Catholic Church with a special commitment to cultural diversity and social justice.
Successful candidates will also be administratively strong, culturally competent, possess a Masters degree, and have prior residence life or related student affairs experience.
The Area Coordinator is specifically responsible for the following:Supervise 2 full-time Resident Directors, 4-5 Graduate Staff Assistants, 9-14 Resident Assistants, and indirect supervision of 2-3 Graduate Assistants, and 30-50 Resident Assistants.
Cultivate a positive and engaging living environment that foster a sense of belonging and enables students to build positive relationships with one another.
Maintain a high degree of visibility and availability, including attending community events, holding regular office hours in the community, and interacting with residentsWork closely with campus stakeholders in Student Affairs, Mission and Ministry, and Academics to develop programmatic interventions designed to support the Jesuit Catholic mission of Boston College and positively impact students.
Coordinate the implementation of the Residential Life Community Engagement Model in the assigned area, including planning and implementing regular programming.
Mediate and assist in the resolution of roommate conflicts, including periodic facilitation of room changes.Conduct weekly staff meetings with RAs and weekly area meetings with Resident Directors of assigned areas.
Review and assign all conduct cases related to students in their assigned area utilizing Maxient and act as an Administrative Hearing Officer as needed, holding formative conversations with students charged with alleged violations, making determinations of responsibility related to alleged violations, and making determinations around educational and status sanctions for students found responsible.
Responds to students and parents on Residential Life issues including facilities concerns, student conduct concerns, roommate conflicts, and general inquiries related to residential living.
Assists with the implementation of departmental and divisional goals and objectives.Participate in on-call system as a Senior Administrator on Call.
Full-Time Equivalent Hiring Range:
$51,850 to $64,800; salary commensurate with relevant experience.
RequirementsBachelor's degree in Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, Social Work or related field required. Master's degree preferred.3 years experience in residential life, student affairs, or related higher education/administration roles.
Must be able to reside in on-campus housing provided by the university as a condition of employment.
Demonstrated leadership abilities with a strong commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion within the residential community.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
Ability to effectively prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Familiarity with budget management principles and financial analysis techniques.
Proficiency with Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite and relevant software applications for data management and reporting.
An understanding of Jesuit education principles and commitment to service.
An understanding of customer service and a demonstrated ability to de-escalate situations.
Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills; superb writing skills a must.
Proven success in project management, including the ability to manage multiple projects and train staff.
Attention to detail when working with highly confidential information.
Attention to workflow, deadlines, and process outcomes.
Demonstrate the awareness, knowledge, and skills required to engage, communicate, and serve people from different cultures.
