ABOUT THIS POSITION:


Approximately 48 million passengers traveled through Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport in 2023, one of the busiest airports in the country in the nation's 5th largest city.

Sky Harbor is the largest of three airports in the Phoenix Airport System (Phoenix Sky Harbor, Deer Valley, and Goodyear airports) which is operated by the City of Phoenix Aviation Department and has an economic impact of $38 billion annually.

The Aviation Department has a vacancy for an Equipment Service Worker I position. This position performs manual tasks related to the operation of automotive equipment.

This position is responsible for inspecting, repairing, and testing equipment, tires, and tubes, as well as performing routine automotive maintenance and simple mechanical repairs.

Duties will also include cleaning and maintaining assigned work areas and cleaning vehicles and parts.

The incumbent must possess and maintain a valid Class A Driver License and notify the Human Resources and Safety Analyst of any changes or revocation.


The essential duties of this position are:

  • Shuttles/transports vehicles, equipment, and parts.
  • Inspects, greases, and lubricates all types of fleet equipment.
  • Responds to minor service calls and performs services required.
  • Inspects, removes, repairs, and replaces wheel bearings, kingpins, and brakes.
  • Performs minor repair and replacement of parts such as fan belts, lights, filters, and batteries and fuels vehicles.
  • Diagnosis, repairs, replaces, adjusts, and lubricates vehicle systems and general components associated with wheel bearings.
  • Inspects and maintains City of Phoenix decals, light bar kits, arrow boards, dash switches, electrical wiring, gauges, and other equipment and components.
  • Conducts accident quality control by inspecting vehicles that have returned from the body shop and disassembles vehicles and equipment for surplus.
  • Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.
  • Performs semiskilled preventative maintenance and general repair by inspecting basic vehicle systems, such as fuel, brakes, hydraulic, air conditioning, cooling, electrical, emission, and chassis, and logs the required repairs.
Work hours vary between 6:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday.


IDEAL CANDIDATE:


  • Ability to operate a computerized work order system.
  • Ability to operate various types of automotive and tire repair equipment.
  • Knowledge of automotive equipment operation.
  • Knowledge of tire selection and air pressures for vehicles.
  • Knowledge of service requirements of automotive equipment.
  • Knowledge of methods, machines, and tools used in wheel balancing practices.
  • Knowledge of methods and tools used to remove and replace wheels and tires to vulcanize tubes.
  • Knowledge of methods used in testing tire wear and corrective measures for eliminating excessive tire wear.

SALARY:


Pay Range:
$18.60 to $27.49 per hour.

Hiring Range:
$18.60 to $22.61 per hour.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
