We are seeking to hire a self-motivated and efficient Director of Staff Development, who will be tasked with managing the day-to-day operations of our organization's staff development department.

The DSD must lead by example in a kind, positive, encouraging, and professional manner and monitors the activities of nursing staff ensuring quality care that complies with all laws, regulations and company policies.

JOB DESCRIPTION:


The primary purpose of this job is to plan, organize, develop, and direct all in-services, educational and orientation programs throughout the facility in accordance with current applicable federal, state, and local standards, guidelines and regulations, and as may be directed by the Administrator, to assure that the highest degree of quality resident care can be maintained at all times.


Your responsibilities will include:

  • Plan, develop, direct, implement, evaluate, and coordinate educational and onthejob training programs to maintain competent staff.
  • Develop and participate in the planning, conducting, and scheduling of orientation programs that orient newly hired personnel to their position, the facility's policies and procedures, resident rights and responsibilities, etc.
  • Incorporate commercially produced instruction material and training aids into existing inservice programs as deemed necessary.
  • Provide leadership in formulating the goals and objectives of the inservice educational programs of this facility.
  • Develop, evaluate and control the quality of inservice educational programs in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Secure, develop and maintain records, reports, instructional manuals, reference materials, etc., pertinent to inservice educational programs.
  • Post notices of inservice training classes in accordance with the facility's policies and procedures.
  • Develop, direct and schedule competency skills check and provide refresher training, as necessary for staff and licensed professional personnel.
  • Assist licensed nursing personnel (i.e., RN's LPN's and Nurse Aides) in obtaining inservice training to keep their license current in accordance with the state law.
  • Ensure that all personnel attend and participate in required inservices training.
  • Ensure that copies of lesson plan, instructor's qualifications, etc., are filed in accordance with the facility's policies and procedures.
  • Assist the Administrator and/or Director of Nursing Services in developing the Nurse Aide Training curriculum used by the facility and submit to state agency when required.
  • Participate in the management and maintenance of employee health program.
  • Conduct departmental performance evaluations in accordance with the facility's policies and procedures.
  • Work with the facility's consultants as necessary and implement recommended changes as required.
  • Participate in developing, implementing, and maintaining an ongoing Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement program for the Staff Development Department.
  • Serve on various committees of the facility as required by existing regulations and as appointed by the Administrator.
  • Follow established safety regulations and established procedures in the use of supplies, equipment and in performance of the job.
  • Follow established Infection Prevention and Control in the performance on the job.
  • Remain current on new developments by attending professional institutions, reading professional journals and attending professional seminars.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS, AND CREDENTIALS

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited college or university.
  • Must possess a current, unencumbered, active license to practice as a Licensed Vocational Nurse or Registered Nurse in this state.
  • Must possess a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate.

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS


Physical and sensory requirement of this position, with or without the aid of mechanical devices include: walking, reaching, bending, lifting, grasping, fine-hand coordination, pushing and pulling, ability to communicate with residents, ability to distinguish smells and temperatures, ability to read and write, and the ability to remain calm under emergency situations while dealing with multiple tasks.


EXPERIENCE

  • Must have, as a minimum, 2 years of experience in a healthcare facility.
  • Must have, as a minimum, 2 years of supervisory or teaching experience.
  • Must possess skills in leadership and communication.
