BUILD is a nationally respected gang intervention, violence prevention, and youth development organization based on Chicago's West Side. One Summer Chicago (OSC) is a six-week subsidized work-based program that provides internships or specialized training for young people ages 14-24 in Chicago. OSC exposes youth to various public and private sector industries, employment opportunities, financial literacy, and training to help increase their self-efficacy and gain work experiences and skills needed to succeed in the current and future economy.
The Youth Coordinator is expected to deliver and support high-quality, innovative, and comprehensive services that empower youth employees to thrive and to collaborate with community partners, sister agencies, and public officials on programs and policies that improve Chicagoans' lives and advance systemic change.


Responsibilities are but not limited to:


  • Attend mandatory training and meetings per request of DFSS, including but not limited to training for Cityspan and a DFSSdesignated technology platform
  • Complete administrative tasks associated with program implementation, e.g., data collection and entry in the designated databases
  • Facilitate weekly job readiness workshops, financial literacy workshops, and work readiness skills assessments, ensuring participants complete required assignments
  • Act as the liaison to participants, BUILD, and DFSS personnel and build strong, positive relationships with youth participants, parents, and work site employers
  • Engage youth in wraparound services within their agency and work with external partners to provide additional support services to youth who are identified as atrisk
  • Aid with retention of youth participants for program duration
  • Assist with data collection and entry into Cityspan and other DFSSdesignated platforms
  • Administer a survey at the end of the program to assess participant experience

Requirements:


  • A bachelor's degree in social services, human services, education, or related field experience, or a minimum of 3 years of experience working with youth
  • One or more years of experience working with youth who experience complex trauma is preferred but not required.
  • Familiarity with socialemotional learning, restorative justice, and traumainformed approaches to youth development is preferred but not required
  • Highly organized with excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Maintain respectful and appropriate relationships with program participants, agency staff, and the various publics of the agency, demonstrating sensitivity to all ethnic, racial, social, and economic backgrounds
  • An automobile is required, with insurance and a valid driver's license.
  • Proficient with technology systems and can integrate technology into daily program operations and evaluation systems.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
  • Must pass extensive background check screening.
