Purpose and Scope (Vision):
The DRE position is the overall director and driver of the parish religious education program (PREP) as well as the sacramental preparation of Catholic students at St Laurence School.
The DRE will work closely with the Pastor and the Parish Leadership Team (to be constituted) in creating a culture of missionary discipleship through collaboration with established pastoral priorities.
The DRE manages the religious education staff (currently 1 full-time administrative assistant) and ensures the smooth running of the religious education program and the fruitful reception of the sacraments by our young people.
This position is part of the front line in connecting the parish offices with our young people and their parents & families - wherever they are on their journey.
PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate will be a committed and engaged Catholic - a missionary disciple who is on fire with love for Jesus Christ and His Church.
He/she must live the Faith vibrantly through participation in Mass on Sundays and holy days of obligation, along with regular encounters with Jesus in prayer and in the sacrament of Reconciliation.
He/she must be eager to share the Good News with others and live a life in total conformity with the teachings of the Church.
Active, practicing Catholic in full Communion with the Roman Catholic Church.
Be a person who enjoys working with people and who desires to manifest the love of Jesus Christ to everyone who contacts the parish offices.
An ability to work collaboratively with all parish, school, and parish staff members.
Understand the importance of confidentiality of church records and conversations.
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to read, write, and speak in both English and Spanish - sufficient to handle phone calls, in person visits, written correspondence, and electronic messages.
Have minimum of a theology or ministry degree OR equivalent experience.
Superior administrative and organizational abilities.
Strong communication skills.
All required background checks and Safe Environment clearances.

SALARY AND BENEFITS
:
This is a full-time position that requires evening and weekend work depending on parish sacramental events and celebrations as well as the PREP calendar/schedule.
KEY JOB DUTIES:
Organize and coordinate the entire Parish Religious Education Program (PREP) - including:
Registration of students and families.
Oversee the collection and recording of payments.
Run necessary parent information meetings.
Organize student retreat days as required.
Ensure materials are ordered and distributed for the classes.
Plan and coordinate sacramental liturgies in conjunction with clergy.
Implement annual safe environment program protocols & lessons.
Build and form a robust catechist team to instruct and form missionary disciples of Jesus Christ.
Recruit, train, and supervise all catechists, aides, and other supporting volunteers.
Assist volunteers with obtaining all necessary safe environment clearances.
Conduct catechist meetings as needed.
Maintain digital and written records for the PREP.
Oversee recording and notification of sacraments received by participants including sacramental certificates and proper, legible recording of the sacraments.
Oversee/coordinate recording of registration information.
Oversee the entire Religious Education staff (currently 1 administrative assistant).
Interact with and maintain open communication as needed with the Pastor, Director of Parish Operations, St Laurence School Principal, school faculty, and parish staff.
Communicate regularly with families keeping them updated and informed of program information, inviting them to parish worship, community, and service opportunities.
Coordinate the initiation process for unbaptized children, and/or children baptized validly in another ecclesial community, and/or those who need additional catechesis for Sacraments.
Refer parents/families to parish pastoral staff for additional sacramental and pastoral needs as they arise.
Coordinate with other adult faith formation and/or youth formation as possible.
Help coordinate the RCIA teams in conjunction with other parish volunteers, staff, and clergy.
Maintain confidentiality of all parish communication and interactions.
Other related duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
Able to self-ambulate up and down stairs and lift up to 25lbs.

About the Parish:
St Laurence is composed of nearly 2,000 registered households and is in the Highland Park neighborhood of Upper Darby Township, which borders West Philadelphia.
We offer Masses and religious education in English, Spanish, and Vietnamese (PREP enrollment was around 325 students this past year).
Our parish school is growing and continues to be led and staffed by the IHM sisters who reside in our parish convent.
