Position Summary:


Westmark School is seeking a School Counselor (Grades 1-6) for a full-time, twelve-month position, starting mid-August, to provide a comprehensive counseling program and serve a key role in creating and sustaining an atmosphere of emotional wellness among students.

The School Counselor utilizes collaboration, leadership, and advocacy to promote students' social, emotional, and academic success.


Salary:

$75,000-$85,000 depending upon education and experience


Responsibilities:

Direct Student Services

  • Provides shortterm, solutionfocused support through individual and group counseling; and, when appropriate, assists families to arrange outside therapy and support services as needed.
  • Provides direct instruction biweekly for Grades 15 Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) class using the RULER program, as well as a onceayear Human Development student workshop series by Health Connected.
  • Works closely with teachers and support staff to address behavioral concerns and implement behavior management strategies.
  • Adheres to laws, policies, procedures, and ethical standards of the school counseling profession.
  • In conjunction with Division Directors, monitors student academic performance, behavior, and attendance, and assists with appropriate interventions.
  • Participates in regular professional development opportunities in order to stay updated on national trends and developments in providing support to children, including students with learning differences
Indirect Student Services

  • Consults and collaborates effectively with parents/guardians, teachers, administrators, and other educational/community resources regarding students with identified concerns and needs.
  • Hosts workshops and presentations for families through our parenteducation program.
  • Arranges and coordinates outside therapy and support services as needed.
  • Communicates and leads discussions on the goals of the program to students, parents, faculty, and staff, and maintains current and appropriate resources available for their use.
  • Assists teachers, parents/guardians, and other constituents in interpreting and understanding student data.
Counseling and School-Wide Programming

  • Conducts a yearly program audit to review the effectiveness of services and program implementation.
  • Collects and analyzes data through Panorama Education to guide program direction and emphasis, including using assessment procedures for determining and structuring individual and group counseling services.
  • Additional duties as assigned throughout the calendar year, includingthe Eye to Eye afterschool mentorship program, Summer Smarts, and Parent-Teacher Conferences.

Qualifications:


  • An advanced degree in School Counseling, Counseling, Social Work, School
  • Experience working with a diverse student population.
  • Experience working with students with learning differences preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with an ability to effectively communicate with all stakeholders of the School.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit in on meetings and work on a computer for long periods of time; and is regularly required to walk, reach with hands and arms, balance, stoop, talk, and hear.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
