Responsibilities:

Assigned to the Substance Abuse Clinic. In addition, the HCWs may provide services in the Psychological Health and Traumatic Brain Injury Division.

The HCW shall provide services within the scope of their competencies and clinical privileges as granted by the Commanding Officer, and the applicable duties provided in the basic contract, and the following:

Obtain or provide relevant information that will facilitate treatment, assist in developing programs, and service delivery relating to the Substance Abuse Rehabilitation Program (SARP).
Conduct comprehensive substance abuse screening/assessments with patients seeking an evaluation voluntarily, or at the direction of their commands, the court, medical, or other referral sources using medical and psychological evaluation to establish individually suitable treatment programs. Compose and forward to commands written correspondence defining evaluation and recommendations.
Writes case histories and discharge summaries.
Provide assessment of substance abuse and addiction. Conduct treatment intakes and develops individual treatment plans. Provide individual and group counseling for clients with substance abuse issues. Identify and document medical consequences of alcohol and other substance use, including withdrawal and detoxification.
Facilitate the placement and management of patients in appropriate levels of care within the continuum of care model of the treatment of addictive disorders.
Perform case management, including referral assistance for patients with problems other than substance abuse. Delegate tasks and duties in the clinical direction and coordination of health care team members, patient care, and clinic activities.
Provide technical guidance to administrative personnel. Maintain records, reports, correspondence, and files, required by local directives and current instructions. Participate in the SARP outreach program. Maintain good working relationships with internal and external customers.

Experience required:

One year of experience as a
Substance Abuse Counselor:

Graduate from a behavioral science program
Successful completion from an internship in psychology accredited by the American Psychological Association.

Certifications required:

NAADAC or
NBCC or
IC&RC/AODA certification

Certified Addictions Counselor License
