Introduction:


Make an impact at the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (DOT) by providing leadership, supervision, and emergency/safety services to the public and local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies The Communications Unit Supervisor (DOT Supervisor) serves as a non-sworn (civilian) member of the Division of State Patrol's Special Operations Section Management Team.
This position will be headquartered at the Milwaukee Traffic Management Center at 433 W. St. Paul Ave, Milwaukee, WI.

This position will travel regularly to provide support to the four communication dispatcher centers located at:

  • De
Forest Post: 911 W North Street, DeForest, WI

  • Milwaukee Traffic Management Center**: 433 W. St. Paul Ave, Milwaukee, WI
Eau Claire Post: 5005 HWY 53 South, Eau Claire, WI

  • Fond du Lac Post**: 851 S Rolling Meadows Dr, Fond du Lac, WI

This position requires independent statewide travel throughout Wisconsin with occasional overnight stays.

Position Summary:


As a civilian member of the State Patrol's Special Operations Section Management Team, the Communications Unit Supervisor is responsible for administering all law enforcement communications support services at the statewide level.

This position provides direct supervision and oversight to all Communications Unit Law Enforcement Dispatch Supervisors (LEDS).

This position also serves as a technical and management consultant on committees for the purpose of Division program and policy development.


Other responsibilities of the Communications Unit Supervisor includes:

  • De
veloping and recommending policy and budget.

  • Directing Communications Unit operations on a daily basis.
  • Conducting Communications Unit meetings.
  • Collaborating with Law Enforcement Dispatch Supervisors (LEDS) to resolve performance or personnel concerns.
  • Reviewing public and internal complaints concerning the Communications Unit.
  • Establishing and implementing Communications Unit training programs to maintain proficiency and develop skills of dispatchers.
  • Assisting with coordination of law enforcement efforts in apprehension of law violators and handling of emergency situations.


The Communications Unit is responsible for providing law enforcement and public safety services to the public and other local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.

This includes information regarding vehicle registration, drivers licensing, criminal information files, road conditions, severe weather reporting, and supporting the Amber and Silver alert notifications.


The State Patrol is the largest traffic law enforcement organization in the State of Wisconsin with a very complex public safety communications system consisting of radio, telephone, and computer technologies.

The Communications Unit serves all five State Patrol Regions with dedicated communication dispatch centers located in DeForest, Milwaukee, Eau Claire, and Fond du Lac.

This position will be required to travel to the communication dispatch center on a regular basis. Overnight stays may be required.


Salary Information:

This position is in schedule-range with an
annual salary of $62,400-$77,875, plus excellent benefits. A twelve month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan.
