Duties & Responsibilities:


Student assistants will cultivate a variety of professional competencies that will assist them in their future careers, such as research, technical, and customer service skills.

Professional and personal growth is an expectation of employment at the Amelia V. Gallucci-Cirio Library.

Please see below the specific duties and responsibilities.

To assist in the library's general functions:

  • Answer basic informational, directional and library services and policy questions
  • Contact with users may be in person, via phone or chat software.
  • Perform basic circulation activities (check in, check out, renewals) and study room reservations using library software.
  • Instruct users working with the following equipment: printers, fax machine, scanner, laminator, projector, microfilm reader, wireless connection
  • Shelve library materials accurately and neatly.
  • Assist with maintenance of all library collections, including shelf reading, straightening, shifting, cleaning.
  • Responsible for security and care of library materials and equipment.
  • Assist with the opening and closing of the Library.
  • Help users navigate the library and locate resources physically and online.
  • Assist with user experience activities such as surveys, data collection and data entry.
  • Opportunities to participate in displays and activities such as Finals crafts and goodie bags.
  • At the Research Help Desk, provide research assistance.
  • Perform related duties and special projects as assigned.
  • May require night and/or weekend hours.

  • Must feel comfortable not knowing the answer to every question and willing to refer to library staff
  • Ability to lift heavy books, move carts and have tolerance for exposure to dust

Additional Information:

Shift Information**:
Currently hiring for the Fall 2024 semester. $15 per hour

Hours could range from 7:30am - 11:30pm (Midnight during finals), Monday through Sunday.

The library is open on select holidays and when classes are canceled due to snow.
