Summary:
Sheet Metal and Tinsmith Workers have responsibilities related to tinsmith, coppersmith, and engraving tasks on locomotives, passenger cars, engines, and associated equipment.
Pipe Fitters are tasked with replacing, installing, cutting, fabricating, and inspecting various hoses, piping, valves, and tubing on locomotives, passenger cars, and engines.
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities may include:
- Performing sheet metal work involving pipefitting and tinsmith duties.
- Executing tinsmith work like layout, fabrication, assembly, and installation of different types of sheet metal and substitutes, including air conditioning ducting in passenger cars.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or its equivalent approved by a State's Department of Education or an accredited organization.
- Competence in pipe installation tasks such as welding, layout, fabrication work, soldering, and brazing.
- Thorough knowledge of hand tools and sheet metal shop mechanics.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in diverse weather conditions.
Capable of walking short distances frequently during an 8-hour shift and longer distances daily.
- Proficient in shop mathematics.
Preferred/Desirable Skill/Qualification:
- Four years of experience in trade skills and/or completed apprenticeship.

95% - 7th 240 days of service.
100% - After 1,680 days of service.
