Job Summary:
Working under limited supervision the incumbent supervises the JW Cage Wash, Clean Supply and Sterile Supply Areas with a staff of 9-16 technicians.
Assures the timely and accurate distribution of supplies and materials to the Production Barriers, the In Vivo laboratory for supplies maintaining the high standards required by AALAC, IACUC, and LAH.
Incumbent is responsible for the performance, discipline, and safety of assigned staff. Incumbent assures the integrity of the barrier area in the spirit and intent of the bio-security containment program.Reports to the Senior Manager, Animal Care and Operations Has regular daily contact with all Animal Care Barrier supervisors and leads, the Warehouse, the Transport Technicians, In Vivo study directors and their designees and department managers.
Has routine contact with EH&S, HR, IACUC and external vendors. Coordinates with JAX Maintenance for repair of machinery and physical area.Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions:
Accountable for work assignments, structure, and process flow of work in the Cage Wash, Clean Supply and Sterile Supply Areas.
Interviews and recommends selection of new employees. Responsible for area orientation and training of newly assigned personnel.
Maintains own training and proficiency levels.
Responsible for the communication of information to room personnel. Gives and solicits constructive feedback from staff.
Conducts weekly QMI staff meetings and monthly one-on-one sessions with assigned staff.
Responsible for the safe performance of staff and ensures strict compliance with safety policy and procedures. Takes immediate action to correct safety violations and/or conditions. Attends safety training and seminars.
Completes administrative duties, including annual appraisals, determination of individual annual raises, daily work schedule, retrieval of daily Animal Care Room orders, authors and revises Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and training procedures, and schedules vacations and floating holidays
Oversees operation of and has operating knowledge of heavy machinery, including tunnel washers, bottle washing machinery, rack washer, and sterilizers.
Performs periodic environmental swab tests of the Sterile Supply area.Submits swab tests to UCD CPL for testing to ensure the proper cleaning and sanitation of the Sterile Supply Area is being accomplished.

Facilities experience directly related to duties and responsibilities specified
Ability to supervise and train staff, including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
Knowledge of sound safety procedures and policies, including working with corrosive chemicals and Materials Safety Data Sheets (MSDSs)
Knowledge of barrier area and clean room procedures, including sterilization and sanitation of equipment, physical property, and personal hygiene. Knowledge of bacterial types and swab procedures. Knowledge of bio-security and bio-containment procedures
Knowledge of computer-based inventory control program, including ordering and ship and release of materials distributed to the Animal Care barriers.
Knowledge of inventory control, including cycle counts and physical inventory countsWritten and oral skills to permit clear and effective exchange of information, including acting as liaison between the Central Processing (Cage Wash, Clean Supply and Sterile Supply) Area and internal/external customers and suppliers, and to accomplish annual performance appraisals and disciplinary communication as required.
Strong organizational skills in a fast-paced, stressful environment, requiring discretion, judgement, tact, and diplomacy.Ability to interact with subordinates, peers, and management staff.
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license
Ability to act without supervision making decisions and interpreting procedures and policies.
Pay Range:
$73, ,682
Education Required:
High School Diploma or GED
Experience Preferred: 5 years
Supervisory Experience Required: 5 years
