GENERAL PURPOSE


Under the direction of the Director of Student Access and Opportunity, the Coordinator of World Language provides leadership in the development, implementation of and support for the school division's K-12 instructional program, as well as designs and delivers professional learning opportunities for all educators with emphasis on embedded school-level coaching and support.

The Coordinator focuses on K-12 World Language and Culture implements the goals and priorities of the Strategic Plan that pertain to student achievement, C5W, and innovative teaching and learning practices.

The Coordinator helps develop communities of practice and networks of teacher-leaders across the school division to ensure ongoing, intense, data-driven adult learning opportunities focused on implementing interdisciplinary approaches, high quality teaching, and continuous growth and learning for all K-12 students.

This leadership position is part of a multidisciplinary team of education leaders in Academic Programs who work together to support all Stafford schools and programs.

Supporting improvement in and the expansion of World Language and Culture and the Dual Language Immersion Program for Stafford school students is a specific focus for this leadership position.


MAIN JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Division-level Support

  • Develop and manage content area budget
  • Provide curriculum and instructional resources through evaluation of existing resources and oversight of the development of new or revised resources
  • Improve and expand student academic program opportunities and access
  • Provide contentfocused professional learning
  • Provide strategic communications to stakeholders, including central leadership, principals, leads, specialists, coaches, department chairs, and others regarding state and local mandates, updates, procedures, resources, and initiatives, among others.
  • Provide content area expertise and technical support
  • Develop and facilitate professional learning to support instruction and academic initiatives
  • Provide academic/leadership expertise to schoolbased instructional leads/Teachers
  • Facilitate contentspecific special events in content area
School-Based Support

  • Provide pedagogical expertise and targeted technical support
  • Provide school administrative teams with targeted support to meet building needs and build local capacity, as requested or determined through data analysis
  • Provide support to schoolbased professional learning communities
  • Provide support to school leaders with data analysis and evidencebased effective strategies to improve academic outcomes as requested by central leadership, school administrative teams, and school improvement
  • Observe classroom instruction and PLCs noting trends in your content area
  • Provide input on evidencebased effective instructional strategies to improve academic outcomes
  • Lead and support the dual language immersion program

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in a world language area. Master's degree preferred.
  • Virginia Postgraduate Professional License with endorsement in Administration
- and Supervision, or ability to secure same, preferred

  • Endorsement in a World Languages or experience working with World Language and Culture curriculum preferred. K12 Administration and Supervision endorsement preferred.
  • A minimum of five years of classroom teaching experience required.
