The University of Maryland Baltimore (UMB) is seeking an
Assistant Vice President, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (AVP-EDI) in the Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion. The Office of EDI provides leadership, builds capacity, and cultivates collective action to advance sustainable, systemic change that promotes equity and justice in all dimensions of the mission and culture of UMB. The Assistant Vice President will be an institutional leader who works closely with the Vice President/Chief EDI Officer (CEDIO) and senior leaders, in partnership and collaboration with the UMB community, to foster excellence and equity at UMB.


Reporting directly to the Vice President/Chief EDI Officer (CEDIO), the Assistant Vice President will have leadership responsibility for high-level university wide initiatives and direct key aspects of institutional EDI accountability, strategic planning, leadership development and capacity building, and faculty development and diversity.

The AVP will also represent the VP/CEDIO to UMB constituents, including students, faculty, staff, senior leaders, system-wide constituents, and external partners.


Primary Duties:


  • Serve as an institutional expert, resource, and thought leader on the contemporary and validated approaches to establishing a culture that values and integrates equity, diversity, and inclusion principles, practices, and policies.
  • Provide leadership and engage collaboratively with senior leadership to adopt strategies that foster education, awareness, and actions that promote a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive university.
  • Represent the VP/CEDIO on university task forces, committees, working groups, and relevant systemwide and external committees, programs, and events.
  • Develop, administer, and assess programs, initiatives, and policies to enhance equity, diversity, and inclusion in faculty recruitment, development, advancement, and retention.
  • Lead the development, implementation, and assessment of highimpact EDI initiatives and programs to advance university leadership development and capacity building.
  • Advise senior leadership regarding complex EDI issues and priorities. Consult and advise on EDI strategic direction, process, accountability, and infrastructure for the University. Provide leadership and expertise to develop novel interventions to address universitywide EDI goals and priorities.
  • Provide direction on the design, development, and implementation of a universitywide accountability framework that promotes and ensures excellence and equity across all dimensions of the mission and culture of UMB.
  • Undertake unique, sensitive, and highprofile projects. Craft welldeveloped and practical solutions to a wide range of complex issues affecting the university. Lead various adhoc committees and working groups to accomplish EDI goals and objectives.
  • Provide highlevel expertise and advice to the Vice President on the design, development, and delivery of EDI initiatives and programs to advance the UMB Diversity Strategic Plan.
  • Lead, support, and advance grant writing opportunities that strengthen institutional inclusion, diversity, and equity, justice, and antiracism initiatives and programs.

Qualifications

Education:
Masters required. Ed.
D. or Ph.
D. degree preferred in a relevant field such as Education, Management, Psychology, or other EDI-related field.


Experience:

Ten (10) years of progressive leadership experience that demonstrates a thorough knowledge of equity, diversity, or inclusion principles and practices, organizational culture and effectiveness, change management and/or leadership development.

Leadership, management, and administration of EDI-related organizational experience in progressively responsible positions.


Experience:
Five (5) years of supervisory/management experience.

Financial disclosure reporting required by State of Maryland Ethics Commission.

Serves at the pleasure of the VP/CEDI.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


  • Proven leadership, influencing, and negotiating skills in an academic environment; ability to lead and integrate EDI in the context of broader University strategy and outcomes.
  • Advanced experience in the development and advancement of highimpact initiatives in large, complex systems.
  • Expertise in curriculum and program design, training, and development to advance universitywide equity diversity and inclusion priorities and goals.
  • Advanced strategic thinking and consulting skills in guiding the organization toward workable strategies and solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively represent and coordinate organizational strategy and administrative initiatives with senior leaders and multiple constituencies.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the design, development and administration of programs, initiatives, and policies to enhance diverse faculty recruitment, development, advancement, and retention.
