- Serve as the in-house liaison for the growing Open Field program, . preparing a weekly brief of upcoming titles, managing the agenda for the monthly meeting, requesting branding assets, following up on book leads, coordinating with the marketing and publicity teams
- Acquire and/or edit 8-10 hardcovers and paperback originals a year, primarily for The Open Field, with the opportunity to also acquire for Penguin Life
- Effectively represent The Open Field imprint to potential authors and agents
- Oversee all editorial aspects of book development, including manuscript development and editing, copywriting including jacket, metadata, and other marketing copy as required
- Edit titles acquired by senior staff when appropriate and serve as second set of eyes for potential acquisitions
- Maintain publishing/production schedules and meet deadlines
- Participate in editorial meetings and present titles at sales meetings
- Identify and follow wellness trends for author acquisition and book promotional opportunities
- Minimum 4 years of experience in publishing in editorial acquisitions at a general trade publisher with a genuine interest in nonfiction
- Professional interest in wellness, health, and inspirational trends
- Exceptional organizational and prompt follow-up skills
- Proven ability to set priorities under pressure and multi-task effectively
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Strong problem-solving and presentation skills
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and demonstrate strong attention to detail
- Prior knowledge of the publishing marketplace preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Teams, etc.

The Open Field and Penguin Life editorial team at Viking Penguin is currently seeking an experienced Editor to serve as both editor and project manager for Maria Shriver's imprint, The Open Field. This role will focus on building that inspirational and prescriptive nonfiction list, with the opportunity to acquire for Penguin Life as well.
The ideal candidate will be a meticulous editor, and prompt and thorough communicator with a sharp eye. Along with editorial responsibilities, the Editor will serve as the point person between Maria Shriver's team and our in-house publishing team, including the publisher, editorial director, and marketing, publicity, and managing editorial departments.

The salary range for this position is $70,000 - $72,000. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to company results.
