Summary:

Assist Foreman in supervision and coordination of activities of workers engaged in construction projects. Supervise crew and assist other workers in construction projects.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Clean or prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards
  • Read plans, instructions, or specifications to determine work activities
  • Control traffic passing near, in, or around work zones
  • Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, or adjustment of machinery, equipment, or materials
  • Dig ditches or trenches, backfill excavations, or compact and level earth to grade specifications, using picks, shovels, pneumatic tampers, or rakes
  • Position, join, align, or seal structural components, such as concrete wall sections or pipes
  • Measure, mark, or record openings or distances to layout areas where construction work will be performed
  • Load, unload, or identify building materials, machinery, or tools, distributing them to the appropriate locations, according to project plans or specifications
  • Erect or dismantle scaffolding, shoring, braces, traffic barricades, ramps, or other temporary structures
  • Position or dismantle forms for pouring concrete, using saws, hammers, nails, or bolts

Supervisory Responsibilities:


  • May supervise a crew of up to 5 workers

Requirements:


Must be able to follow specific directions; perform a variety of duties which may often change; work within standards of accuracy.

Must be able to stand or walk for long periods; use arms and hands to reach for, handle and manipulate objects; be able to lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds, climb up and down ladders, scaffolds, and other objects; carry tools and equipment; stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl; see and hear well (naturally or with correction).

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, documents, instructions, procedure manuals, routine report writing, and effective communication skills.


Education and Experience:


  • High School diploma preferred
  • Two years relevant experience

Safety Considerations:

Typically works 12 hours per day, 6-7 days per week in extreme hot and cold environments. Wears all the required personal protective equipment on a daily basis. May be exposed to poisonous snakes, insects and similar. May be required to work on variable terrain in performance of duties. May be required to operate motor vehicle. Routinely lifts/carries up to 50 pounds unassisted on daily basis.
