About the Position:
Serve as Supervisor over the Production Tooling Division.

Responsibilities Plan and assign work to subordinates, involving tool design and build, NC programing, production methods development and analysis, and work measurement.

Reviews and assists with programs, program prove-outs, and trouble-shooting of machine, program, tooling, and fixture problems. Review work completed, accepting, amending or rejecting work, as appropriate.

Evaluate the effectiveness of operations of the Divisions in terms of mission accomplishment, quality and quantity of standards mets, and technical competence.

Plan work on a long-range basis. Set goals and objectives; establish overall priorities and responsibilities for the Divisions. Attend meeting and conferences to obtain, exchange and present technical results pertaining to assigned projects. Represent the organization on identified production problems with contractors and other government agencies. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Term Appointment NTE

Position may be filled as a Term Appointment Not To Exceed (NTE) 13 months.

Term appointments may be extended beyond of six (6) years, up to eight (8) years. With DoD approval, Term appointments may be extended beyond eight (8) years.

Current permanent Federal employees (to include current permanent Army employees) applying for a Term appointment will be appointed/converted into a Term appointment with no statutory return rights back to a permanent position.

Specialized Experience:

One year of specialized experience which includes planning work and establishing deadlines to be accomplished by subordinates; designing, planning, or estimating tooling and gauges required in the manufacture and assembly of products; troubleshooting tool and production problems to determine cause of problems; and recommending modifications to fix tool or production problems.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).

The Rock Island Arsenal Joint Manufacturing and Technology Center occupies 1.5 million square feet of its Kingsbury Complex home.

As the only multi-purpose and vertically integrated metal manufacturer in the Department of Defense, the center possesses the unique technical expertise and equipment to manufacture products high in quality and sustainability.

RIA-JMTC also reaches out to the community by offering machinist apprenticeships and other training programs to qualified applicants. The availability of centralized manufacturing and testing allows production to come full circle, thus minimizing the need to outsource.

This full service center holds within it the people and the equipment needed to meet goals of continuous process improvement, efficiently utilizing available time and money.
