    The Department of Public Safety at CU Boulder is now accepting applications for a Threat Assessment Specialist This position reports directly to the Threat Assessment Manager and plays a pivotal role in safeguarding the university community by conducting comprehensive reviews of reports, assessing potential threats of violence, and assisting leadership in devising strategies to mitigate risks. This includes facilitating Threat Assessment Teams (TAT), managing case intake, conducting risk assessments, delivering training, and collaborating with campus departments and law enforcement agencies to ensure a proactive approach to threat management.

    What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

    Behavioral Intervention/Case Intake

    • Serve as a member of the Universitys Students of Concern Team (SOCT), Case Manager for the Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) and Conduct Review Committee.
    • Review and triage reports of concerning behavior referred from various sources, advancing cases to the TAT when needed.
    • Coordinate ad-hoc TAT meetings to address emergent cases, including after-hours availability.
    • Conduct thorough research on individuals of concern using open-source intelligence, facilitating analysis by the TAT.
    • Assist in preparing BIT agendas, compiling meeting notes, and action items.
    • Manage administrative functions of BIT including service agreements, policy updates, and annual reporting.
    • Maintain an operation manual for BIT and ensure accurate documentation in shared records database (Maxient).

    Risk Assessment

    • Conduct risk assessments such as SIVRA-35 with individuals of concern and prepare written summaries of findings and recommendations.
    • Monitor individual cases and progress to ensure compliance with recommendations and address emerging concerns.

    Training/Education

    • Collaborate with campus partners to increase knowledge and resource development related to TATs.
    • Prepare materials (written, presentations, videos) to document activities and convey information effectively.

    Other Duties as Assigned

    • Handle safety-sensitive/law enforcement-sensitive information with discretion.
    • Participate in committees, forums, and trainings to foster relationships with internal partners.
    • Collaborate with various units within CUPD and assist with policy development and project design.
    • Maintain relationships with professionals in similar roles at other CU Boulder system institutions and report on trends across higher ed.
    • May be required to work night, weekends or holidays as needed.

    • This position operates University vehicles and an active Drivers License is required.
    • This position is designated as Essential Services and as a Campus Security Authority.

    What We Can Offer

    The hiring range for this position is $70,000 - $80,000 annually.

    What We Require

    • Bachelors degree in Psychology, Social Work, Higher Education Administration, Public Administration, Student Affairs Administration, or related subject area.
    • Minimum of three (3) years post bachelors degree professional experience in case management, threat assessment, violence risk assessment, or crisis response in a university setting.

    • Commitment to professionalism and confidentiality.
    • Demonstrates immediate readiness to address complex issues with professionalism, maintaining a calm and non-judgmental demeanor.
    • Proficient in data and record management techniques to accurately document cases and maintain confidentiality.
    • Successful completion of criminal background checks.

    Knowledge and Understanding:

    • Familiarity with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Crime Statistics Act, ensuring compliance with reporting requirements.
    • Understanding of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) to maintain confidentiality of student records.
    • Knowledge of the infrastructure of Institutions of Higher Education and their relationships with State agencies.
