    Full time
    Description

    The University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC), Department of Preventive Medicine, is seeking candidates for a full-time, tenured or tenure-track, state-supported, faculty position at the level of associate or full professor to assume the Director role of the CANDLE Study (Conditions Affecting Neurocognitive Development and Learning in Early Childhood). CANDLE is an active longitudinal birth cohort of 1500 mother-child dyads based in Shelby County, TN. The CANDLE cohort has been followed uninterrupted for the past 16 years and has one of the largest representations of African American mother-child dyads (65%). Translational research is supported by in person data collection protocols, an extensive biorepository, and a network of transdisciplinary investigators at UTHSC and elsewhere. Current CANDLE funding derives from the NIH Environmental influences on Child Health Outcomes consortium, as well as on-going investigator-initiated grants.

    The successful candidate will be Director of CANDLE, and responsible for all aspects of study vision, development, and management. Candidates are expected to obtain extramural funding and have a track record of research experience and expertise necessary to develop and maintain an on-going, highly collaborative, research program focused on health outcomes in a racially diverse cohort of mother-child dyads. The candidate's research focus may include, but is not limited to, respiratory disease, obesity, neurodevelopment, nutrition, addiction, prenatal and postnatal outcomes, or other socio-behavioral outcomes of high impact. Candidates are also welcome to develop new research activity or be involved with research activities outside of CANDLE. Although this is primarily a research position, the successful candidate is also expected to contribute to the academic mission of Department of Preventive Medicine and the Division of Epidemiology through teaching, student and junior faculty mentorship, and departmental service. A joint or secondary appointment in a clinical department may be feasible as appropriate. This position comes with a generous start-up package, relocation costs, and excellent medical and educational benefits through the State of Tennessee.

    Qualifications:

    • Doctorate in epidemiology, public health, medicine, nursing, health psychology, or a similar area;
    • Track record of peer-reviewed publications, grant awards, and academic leadership meriting appointment at associate or full professor;
    • Experience proposing and implementing epidemiologic and clinical studies including the implementation and management of observational studies, diagnostic studies, or randomized trials;
    • Experience working with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body;
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

      Interested applicants should electronically submit a copy of their curriculum vitae, and a cover letter summarizing your research and other experience. Contact information for three recommendation letters will be required before an appointment is made. Please include the position posting number in the subject line of all communications. Review of materials will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.

      All qualified applicants will receive equal consideration for employment and admissions without regard to race, color, national origin, religion, sex, pregnancy, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, physical or mental disability, or covered veteran status. Eligibility and other terms and conditions of employment benefits at The University of Tennessee are governed by laws and regulations of the State of Tennessee, and this non-discrimination statement is intended to be consistent with those laws and regulations. Education Amendments of 1972, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, The University of Tennessee affirmatively states that it does not discriminate on the basis of race, sex, or disability in its education programs and activities, and this policy extends to employment by the University.

      Inquiries and charges of violation of Title VI (race, color, national origin), Title IX (sex), Section 504 (disability), ADA (disability), Age Discrimination in Employment Act (age), sexual orientation, or veteran status should be directed to the Office of Equity and Diversity (OED), 920 Madison Avenue, Suite 825, Memphis, Tennessee 38163, telephone V/TTY available). Requests for accommodation of a disability should be directed to the ADA Coordinator at the Office of Equity and Diversity.
