Summary:

REGISTERED NURSE - Endoscopy/Medical Floor (PRN) - Reprocessing Scopes Responsible for utilizing the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate provision of safe patient care, assuring confidentiality, comfort, and advocacy within the scope of nursing practice.

Manages individualized, goal-directed nursing care through use of the nursing process and the principles of primary nursing in accordance with departmental and hospital policies and procedures.

Participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement activities. This position may be asked to work at other NCCH-designated work location or sites as needed.
Current position is working 2nd Monday and 3rd Tuesday of each month - Reprocessing scopes.
This position requires a commitment to teamwork, collaboration and department scheduling needs i.e. good attendance, attitude, customer services, communication skills, etc.,

Supervision Received: Works under the direct supervision of the
Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) or designated administrator.


Essential Function:


  • Provides general nursing care to patients.
  • Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques.
  • Uses Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system and paper medical records to document nursing care provided.
  • Assists Case management with Medicare and/or insurance documentation.
  • Pursues professional growth and development.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others including physicians, nurses, administrators, managers, vendors, and other health care industry personnel.




PRIMARY:
Endoscopy tasks as assigned.


Provides general nursing care to patients.

  • Maintains current certifications and licensure as required to provide care.
  • Communicates with physicians, Nurse Practitioners, and other medical professionals on patient care.
  • Assesses and diagnoses patient and family needs in order to provide quality care to assigned patients.
  • Explains procedures and treatments to patient to gain cooperation, understanding, and allay apprehension.
  • Counsels patients and family members before, during and after treatment. Educates patient and family on medication use, dose, and common side effects.
  • Respond to inquiries, concerns and complaints from patients.
  • Prepares equipment and aids physician during treatment and examination of patient.
  • Ability to place Catheters for patients, change catheters, and check on catheter status.
  • Completes a Physical assessment, head to toe assessment, and tacking of I&Os as needed.
  • Works as a Patient Advocate for what patient's desires are in conjunction with the plan of care. Completes individual patient care plan.
  • Ability to safely move or lift patient as needed, with assistance of machines, other staff and/or devices.

Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques.**- Administers medication through Medical Pass and as ordered by physician, uses Medication Dispense Machine and charts administered medications

  • Places IVs, documents date/time placed for IVs and monitors IV sites.
  • Asks for assistance from Pharmacist as needed regarding math for medication administration to ensure proper dosing.
  • Checks Medications for accuracy, follows up with patient to ensure no adverse reactions to medications after administered.
  • Reports Medication errors according to policy.
  • Reads EKG Monitor strips, has basic knowledge of 12 Lead EKG, reports changes to medical providers as appropriate.

Maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation:


  • Uses Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system and paper medical records to document nursing care provided.
  • Documents nursing care provided to ensure the integration of information for use by the healthcare team to ensure quality care.
  • Maintains and reviews patient records, charts and other pertinent information.
  • Documents all nursing care, procedures, medication administration, communication with ancillary departments and providers, and family interactions and interventions.
  • Tracks and maintains Medical Supply inventory along with other staff members to ensure supply levels are sustained.

Education and/or Experience:

ADN or BSN from accredited school of nursing.


Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:


  • Current, Unrestricted, Arizona RN license required.
  • Current CPR or BLS required
  • Current ACLS required.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


Â- Demonstrates the skills and judgment necessary to implement medical plan of care, nursing interventions, and procedures as necessary for the care of the patient.

Â- Thorough knowledge of Nurse Practice Act, RN Scope of Practice, and the nursing processes and standards of care.

Â- Skills in basic nursing principles such as IV starts, NG tube and cath
