    Honeywell background
    OTHER
    Description

Join a team recognized for leadership, innovation and diversity

The Kansas City National Security Campus (KCNSC) is a U.S. Department of Energy, National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) facility managed and operated by Honeywell Federal Manufacturing & Technologies (FM&T). Our primary business is to manufacture sophisticated mechanical, electronic, and engineered-material components for our nation's defense system. Our goal is to seek innovative solutions that surpass our customers' expectations; to accomplish this, we research, develop, and deploy some of the most advanced design and manufacturing technologies in use in the United States today. This position is seeking candidates from universities involved in one or more of these programs: NNSA's Minorities Serving Institutes Partnership Program (MSIPP), a KCNSC Master Collaboration Agreement (MCA) university, or a KCNSC R&D consortium partner. MSIPP's goal is to increase participation of women and minorities in NNSA's nuclear security enterprise and across the nation in STEM disciplines, developing individuals, building core competencies for NNSA, and improving institutional capacity in Minority Serving Institutions. The MCA program seeks to facilitate research and development relevant to KCNSC mission through plant-directed research and development and other low-technology-maturity programs. The consortium model supports multi-institution collaborative efforts in a broader topic of interest to KCNSC.

This non-permanent position has been designed for a KCNSC supported MSIPP or MCA consortium university or college faculty member to spend 10-12 weeks of summer 2024 at the KCNSC to expand their research efforts and understanding of the KC campus activities. The faculty member will work as part of a larger team of Scientists and Engineers to achieve the scope of work on one or more projects related to materials, electronics, or mechanical components. This position will:

    · Interface with internal organizations to resolve design, R&D, production and acceptance issues.

    · Identify future technology focus areas.

    · Research and evaluate the relevant scientific literature in preparation for solving complex materials/component development problems.

    · Evaluate research results and make recommendations on a project's forward path.

    · Draft reports, and prepare and deliver presentations on research results, as needed, to communicate progress and meet project milestones.

    · Expand the existing project team knowledge base.

    You Must Have:

    · A Faculty position at a partnering MSIPP and/or MCA consortium university or college in academic year 2023/2024 in a Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or similar department.

    · Ph.D. in Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics, or similar.

    · Must be a U.S. Citizen in order to obtain a DOE "Q" level clearance.

    · This position may require that a Non-Disclosure Agreement be signed, as well as other agreements regarding the ownership of any intellectual property that may be developed.

    We Value:

    · Ongoing research and development collaborations with KCNSC, either through MSIPP or an MCA

    · Experience with a variety of materials characterization and analytical techniques including mechanical and rheological properties.

    · Progressive experience in electrical engineering research.

    · Experience in design and testing of mechanical systems.

    · Experience in modeling and simulation of physical phenomena.

    · Experience reflective of ability to negotiate, positively influence leaders, team with peers, and mentor teammates to drive resolution for mutually beneficial outcomes.

    · Experience in strategic development with demonstrated success negotiating these efforts.

    · Leadership experience managing large complex projects with history of successful outcomes

    · Interpersonal skills - ability to build relationships and communicate with all levels of an organization.

    · Strong communication skills - verbal, written, and presentation.

    · All employees must work in a safe manner in accordance with the Laboratory Health and Safety Program.

Note: Eligible candidates will be required to submit a 1-2 page proposal indicating 1) how their Visiting Scientist experience KCNSC would benefit their institution (for MSIPP institutions) and/or 2) how their Visiting Scientist experience would benefit KCNSC R&D efforts (for MCA/consortium institutions).
