The State of New Hampshire, Department of Environmental Services, Waste Management Division, Hazardous Waste Remediation Bureau has a full time vacancy for a Hydrogeologist III.
Summary:
Provides high level hydrogeological and regulatory expertise and experience in evaluating hydrogeological investigations for the permitting operation and closure of solid waste facilities Communicates complex hydrological data and analysis to a variety of stakeholders Provides analytical technical and regulatory expertise for proper management of contaminated soils.

36 Months of additional relevant experience = Bachelor's degree
54 Months of additional relevant experience = Master's degree
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education Bachelors degree form a recognized college or university with major study in forestry geology hydrogeology or a related water resources or earth science degree Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience
Experience Six years experience as a professional geologist hydrogeologist or hydrologist
License Certification Must have or obtain within one year of hire registration as a Professional Geologist in the State of New Hampshire Eligibility for NH drivers license required for performing professional field work.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Experience must be with emphasis on analysis of hydrologic data at contaminated sites and or waste management facilities The aforementioned experience must include explaining and communicating complex hydrogeological data in public forums.
Responsibilities:
Reviews and analyzes complex hydrogeological data submitted by consultants to evaluate site specific conditions and to form a basis for agency decisions about permitting operation closure design and monitoring requirements at solid waste sites, including RCRA Subtitle D lined landfills and unlined landfills.
Interprets hydrogeologic information at waste management facilities and contaminated sites to characterize the source and extent of contamination and approve remedial action plans to address contamination Also evaluates data to determine the effectiveness of remedial action plans and recommends changes if the remedial actions are not performing as intended.
Coordinates the review of hydrogeologic information pertaining to solid waste landfills and other waste management facilities with other department environmental programs to ensure agency decisions are consistent with achieving compliance with all relevant environmental and human health standards policies and procedures.
Assists with major enforcement activities and negotiations with responsible parties municipal representatives consultants and attorneys to achieve adequate response and cleanup actions that comply with agency laws regulations and policies Provides expert testimony at appeals permit revocations and in court when necessary.
Assists the agency in developing procedures policies and rules for the effective management of contaminants of concern at waste facilities.
Coordinates and implements a range of technical and regulatory assignments to establish and ensure compliance with best management practices for management of contaminated soils.
Provides input and support for implementing programs projects and procedures to accomplish the annual and strategic goals of the Solid Waste Management Bureau, the Waste Management Division and the Department.
