We have an _immediate_ need for a full-time, exempt
Literacy Coordinator.

This position will work 32.0 hours per week on Monday - Thursday during the school year, and additional hours may be required for special projects and during summer months.

As a member of the School Age Child Care department, the
Literacy Coordinator
plans, implements, and coordinates all components of the Literacy program for girls in grades K-6.

This role is also responsible for overseeing the library. The rate for this position is $20.00 per hour. **As a full-time role, the
Literacy Coordinator will be eligible to participate in Girls, Inc. benefits program.


POSITION OVERVIEW (What we're looking for)

Reporting to the Director of School Age Child Care, the
Literacy Coordinator is based at the Lynn office. This role creates positive relationships and quality, hands-on enrichment activities for up to 169 members.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & DUTIES (What you'll be achieving)
At a minimum, the
Literacy Coordinator will be responsible for successfully carrying out the following essential functions and duties:

  • Lead the development of a creative, hands-on literacy curriculum with staff to augment programs.
  • Identify girls with low reading scores and provide access to oneonone tutoring.
  • Test all K3 members with DIBELS Next at least three times annually.
  • Find accessible book sources and provide numerous free book distributions.
  • Assist Girls Inc. National with coordinating trainings as needed.
  • Keep the library clean, organized, and replenished with a variety of books and materials.
  • Organize a team of literacy volunteers and interns and collaborate with the Volunteer Coordinator.
  • Provide training to new staff and volunteers and assist with planning sessions as needed.
  • Work with families of struggling readers to help them support their children to become capable readers.
  • Create relationships with schools to gain accessibility to teachers and literacy coaches.
  • Facilitate the Homework Help program.
  • Organize the logistics of family gatherings, including family literacy night; Operation SMART Night; Halloween; Thanksgiving; summer sendoff; and summerend celebration.
  • Assist the Director with Quality Rating and Improvement System (QRIS) requirements and assessments.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (What you'll bring along)

Education:
Bachelor's degree in Education, Library Science, or a related field from an accredited university. The educational requirement may be substituted with four years of relevant experience.


Experience:
Minimum of two years of related experience working with school-age children. Experience in creating, planning, and implementing youth programs.

  • Experience working with youth representing diverse cultures, ethnicities, languages, and abilities.
  • Massachusetts driver's license is required, and a willingness to obtain a school pupil transport (7D) license.
  • Must be certified in First Aid and CPR.
  • Possess strong group facilitation skills.
  • Highly developed skills in planning, organizing, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to problem solve, be flexible, imaginative, and innovative.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs and the internet.
  • Fluent in the Spanish language is highly desired.
