Summary of Functions


The Field Service Technician plays a crucial role in implementing and maintaining complex digital mobile communication systems for commercial, Government, and Public Safety Communications customers.

Their responsibilities involve a range of tasks, including deployment, optimization, and repair of various infrastructure components such as public safety loggers, subscribers, microwaves, computers, servers, and network equipment.

They collaborate closely with Customers, System Managers, Engineers, Sales teams, Project Managers, and System Technologists to achieve project goals. This role may require on-call duties to ensure support for mission-critical systems, particularly for public safety customers.

Key duties include maintaining and managing highly technical land mobile radio (LMR) communications systems, focusing on optimal performance and proactive troubleshooting to address alarms and malfunctions.

The Field Service Technician conducts routine system maintenance, monitors performance, and implements preventative measures. They must stay updated with the latest technologies and troubleshooting techniques for digital and analog communications equipment.

Additionally, they provide technical support, ensuring swift and accurate responses to alerts, and managing appropriate repairs or escalations as needed.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintenance and management of highly technical land mobile radio (LMR) communications systems.
  • Proactively addressing and mitigating systemlevel alarms and malfunctions.
  • Routine system maintenance to ensure optimal system availability.
  • Performance monitoring of the integrated system.
  • Conducting systemwide preventative maintenance.
  • Familiarity with current model digital and analog communications equipment and system architectures.
  • Providing technical support for swift and accurate responses to alerts.
  • Ensuring appropriate repair or escalation of issues.
  • Perform additional assignments and special projects as directed.

Experience/Education

  • One plus years of experience in one of the following: Mototrbo Systems, P25 Systems, LMR RF systems, wired/wireless communication systems and subscriber equipment.
  • Proven experience with equipment commonly used in optimizing and testing Motorola communications systems (Communications Systems Analyzers, Power Sensors, and Watt Meters, TIMS sets, CPS, RSS, Antenna Systems Analyzers (FDRs), T1 test sets, etc.)
  • Experience in the configuration and testing of Motorola two‐way radio and subscriber products.
  • FCC license and industry certifications such as ETA are a plus.
  • Must be able to successfully pass and maintain the ability to pass background checks and obtain security clearances, as well as possess and maintain a clean driving record.
  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent.
  • Valid Driver's License and ability to drive on behalf of company business.
  • Company will provide additional training, as necessary.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to be oncall.
  • Very strong knowledge of wired/wireless communications systems, such as local area networks (LAN) and wide area networks (WAN).
  • Knowledge of Mototrbo Systems, P25 Systems, LMR RF systems, wired/wireless communication systems, networking equipment, IT networks, and subscriber equipment.
  • Knowledge in standard telephony and dedicated data circuits, as well as knowledge of packetswitching techniques.
  • Strong selfmanagement skills and "people" skills to work closely with Air Comm's customers and subcontractor partner community and Air Comm Sales, Engineering, Project Management, and customer service teams.
  • Must be selfmotivated and selfmanaged to perform the required duties at a distance from direct supervision.
  • Must be able to solve customer problems quickly during stressful situations.
  • Knowledge of configuration and testing of channel banks, routers, hubs, and switches.
  • Ability to develop and present technical training.
