The College and the District:


College of San Mateo (CSM) is part of the San Mateo County Community College District and is a Hispanic Serving Institution and Asian American Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institution.

The college enrolls approximately 15,000 students each academic year. CSM has a diverse student population that is a reflection of the communities that it serves.

Who We Want:


The Position:


The College Recruiter is instrumental to the college as the role establishes our student-centered community engagement strategy designed to increase enrollment in the college with a focus on outreach and recruitment of perspective students.

Under the direction of the Executive Director of Strategic Initiatives and Economic Development, the position works closely with the campus marketing team to design tools necessary to support increased visibility and interest in College of San Mateo being the college of choice.

The College Recruiter strategically plans a variety of recruitment programs, services, and outreach activities related to enhancing and increasing college admissions, retention, and community partnerships.

Public contact is extensive and includes staff, students, outside educational institutions, community organizations/non-profits, businesses, and the public for the purpose of exchanging enrollment and admissions services information.

A high degree of independent judgment and creativity is required, within the scope of the classification to develop original and collaborative plans for recruitment and related services, marketing campaigns, programs, and activities, and to establish and maintain effective internal and external working relationships.

Consequences of errors in judgment could be costly in public relations and in employee time. A College Recruiter can direct the work of other staff and student assistants as assigned.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Exchanges information with management and other staff, outside educational institutions, community and business representatives, media representatives and others regarding outreach, enrollment, retention, and related services; confers with College staff to strategically plan informational/campus visibility campaigns, publicity materials, outreach activities and recruitment objectives; makes presentations to small and large groups to provide information about College and District programs, courses, student support services, activities, short
- and long-range plans; meets with faculty and management
