The TCWP team provides education, outreach, and planning support for communities around the state, focusing on approaches that foster collaboration and holistic solutions to reduce risks from floods and other hazards.

Central to our approach is the engagement of community staff, elected officials, and decision-makers in interactive planning exercises. Leveraging data-driven methodologies and innovative tools, such as our award-winning GIS-based scenario planning software, CommunityViz. YOUR ROLE

YOUR SKILLS & EXPERIENCE


We're searching for an early-career developer who thrives on building creative and effective data production tools, particularly in a fast-paced, startup-like environment within a university setting.

As junior developer, you will be entrusted with providing mission-critical development support, creating a range of data products and services.

Using a collaborative approach with the product team, you will skillfully translate end user requirements into effective and efficient services tailored to meet product goals.

We are seeking experience working with and developing GIS and various tools in automating geospatial workflows, preferably using FOSS such as QGIS, GDAL, PostGIS, and other open-source libraries.


We are looking for someone who is not only highly motivated and organized but also possesses a keen eye for detail and solid programming skills and methodologies.

As part of our rapidly growing team, adaptability to evolving team dynamics and effectiveness in virtual collaboration are key attributes we value.

RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Provides personnel and enduser support for geographic information system (GIS) software.
  • Conducts necessary research on complex, technical problems related to our products, systems, and services.
  • Develops and implements solutions to meet product and organizational needs.
  • Acquires, curates, and organizes geospatial data within our geospatial libraries to ensure data integrity and accessibility.
  • Implements and adheres to data protocols and governance.
  • Prepares technical documentation for data definitions, schemas, and ETL methods to ensure clear understanding and usability.
  • Participates in professional development and training to stay up to date on the latest trends and technologies.
  • Participates in various crossfunctional teams and technical meetings, internal and external to the program. Contributes collaboratively to decisionmaking processes.
  • Assists with the maintenance of GIS software, computers, and related infrastructure to ensure reliable system performance.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:


  • Bachelor's degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:


  • Working knowledge of at least one general programming language (Python, Java, VB.Net), web programming , JavaScript, HTML5, , ), database queries using SQL, and GIS scripting (ArcObjects, Arcade, GDAL).
  • Working knowledge of PostgreSQL, PostGIS, SQL Server, ArcSDE, ArcGIS Server, and REST APIs.
  • Experience with the use of code versioning such as Git and similar tools.
  • Familiarity with IIS, Apache, or similar web services.
  • Familiarity with Agile or Scrum software methodologies.
