## Position Overview

The Building Caring Families Community Organizer Internship provides hands-on experience in grassroots community organizing focused on strengthening family support networks through authentic conversation and resource connection.

Interns work directly with Regional Directors and community coordinators to learn relationship-building skills, community organizing strategies, and sustainable approaches to family support while contributing to real initiatives that prevent family crises before they occur.

## Internship Structure

### Week 1-2: Foundation Building

• Complete Voice Up foundational training modules
• Shadow experienced community coordinators during family conversations
• Learn active listening and conversation facilitation techniques
• Study local community demographics and existing family support resources
• Begin weekly reflection documentation of learning and observations

### Week 3-4: Skill Development

• Practice oneonone conversation skills with coordinator supervision
• Attend community meetings and neighborhood gatherings as observer
• Research and map local resources for family support services
• Participate in training on cultural competency and traumainformed approaches
• Conduct first independent family conversation with mentor support

### Week 5-6: Active Practice

• Lead 23 family conversations per week with coordinator backup
• Assist with organizing community resource fairs or information sessions
• Document family needs and community assets while maintaining confidentiality

## Eligibility Requirements

### Academic Background
Current enrollment in social work, public health, community development, sociology, psychology, nonprofit management, or related fields. After demonstrating consistency through planning phases and community engagement, participants become eligible for compensation ranging $17-$35 per hour as independent contractors for 6-12 month periods, maximum 15 hours per week per academic semester.

Outstanding participants may apply for up to $10,000 seed investment for innovative community organizing projects, determined case-by-case through detailed written proposals and direct consultation with organizational leadership.
